Hee hee. Maybe he started as an old man?

Hope you all are feeling better---went to an art class on drawing portraits today---very humbling experience! I worked for 4 hours, and it's not really done---except for me, it is!

Nice, Allison! Love the bluejay too.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I learned the first two shots.... is a nothern flicker

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Cool - I would not have known that.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

me either... pretty big

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Strep is bad. Get better soon Victor. The northern flickers are agressively amorous this year. The Rockies is inundated with more metal drumming that wood drumming which is very noisy BTW. Happening from NM up to MT. Interesting birding event.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I was wondering why I kept hearing two different knocks on the trees... the plieated went real fast and the flicker slower... btw I have only seen the plieated here twice... counting yesterday

the first time I was out weeding and it landed on my gutter of the house.... it was so loud I actually jumped... had to be 3 or 4 years ago... moving from the city to woods was a shock to my system... at the time I had no idea what it was... I never saw anything like that growing up... my neighbor knows a lot about wildlife knew just what it was when I described it

O O O - the hummers are right on the NH-MA border!!!!

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

The Flickers are very noisy this time of the year. Chimney caps, BBQ, Metal Sheds - you name it, if it's made of metal they will hammer away at it!

I have my hummingbird feeder out...but they seemed to have missed Long Island!! What's up with that?

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

If there are smart they won't cross the border for a few weeks. It's only 33-35 degree's here right now!

Why do the Flickers peck at metal?

They want to mate ? Their chirp dont get them any. - kidding

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

heehee Sherrie!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

The flickers drum to attract mates and drumming on metal is louder than wood.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

The hummers have skipped here also. :(

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

The hummers seem to be hugging the coastal waters and converging on the great lakes. Is there still alot of frozen inland water in the NE? I wonder sometimes if they don't hang and wait for open water.

Thomaston, CT

Have seen quite a few flickers- lately--they have a large white patch on their rump when they fly---and as our house has shingles, the woodpeckers love us---I have stuck my head out the window to scare them. Nice shots, Allison.

There is often one at the neighbor's flag pole.

Flickers, drumming and wood - hmmm.

No frozen water here, but very little bugs in the sense only big bugs. Some long skinny things.

Our neighbors, the northern flickers, lost their home in the ice storm this year. I was very happy to see Mr. Flicker at the feeder this week. I didn't get a photo of him though. He was too quick for me.

I'm going to sit really still and see if I can discover where the family has moved to for this season. Yeah, sure! I can't sit still for two minutes!!

Safe trip, Dave.

Happy Easter everyone. We had our dinner yesterday, cuz one son's family had plans today at their church. I was so full and had to take a nap after they left. It was raining, too. We did the egg hunt inside. 5 kiddies aged 4 and under. It was noisy! Our youngest son brought a dog, who was quite unsure of the younguns and tried to stay right beside him, until they all left, then she relaxed. She loves my mom and ran right back to her room when she walked in the door to greet her.

Happy Easter and safe trip wishes to Dave. A tad chilly here this morning for the annual egg hunt, but the kids had fun. I stayed indoors, gave my camera to someone else to take photos, didn't get ONE photo of the festivities!

Looking for mimosa now.
