I'm seeking help for a Dracaena Marginata. the leaves are turning brown and dropping off. The plant is located in an office area where there is no sunlight. Also, when I water it, the water isn't draining; it just pools in the center and remains that way. should I water it or not? Have I overwatered it? Can I save it. It's beginning to look pretty sparce. Help please.
Thank you.
Dracaena Marginata
Can you post a picture of some of the browning leaves? It definitely could be overwatering since they don't need a lot of water so it's not hard to overwater them. Does the pot have a drainage hole? If it doesn't and it's been watered a lot then the water may have nowhere to go and that's why it doesn't seem like it's draining through. But there's another possibility too--maybe the soil is really dry instead...many potting mixes are very hard to rewet once they dry out (which would make it pool on top for a long time before it soaks in). Not enough water can cause similar symptoms to too much water.
If the soil is too try i find that the water just goes straight through the pot which can give the impression that the soil is wet; the best thing to do in those circumstances is to steep it in water for a while until you can see the top getting wet and then leave the water to drain away afterwards.
The leaves may also be turning brown from the lack of sunlight; has the plant been in that environment for a long time or has it just been introduced recently?
