Have an area in full sun which is currently part of our lawn (not all that great!) which I'd like to convert to a small rose bed. I'm a newbie with roses so I'm not looking for a showcase by any means! My first question (others may follow!) then is how to best create an appropriate soil environment for this adventure. Zone is 5a. I guess I'll leave it at that and hope for some sympathetic response. Thanks in advance.
Starting a new small rosebed
Here is the forum for roses. These folks can help you learn what to do.
Did you find the rose forum?
Why didn't the link to the rose forum show up?! Let me go get it again, Sorry...
Edited to try to add the link again http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/f/roses/all/

Thanks JuneyBug for the link. As you might have guessed, I'm a newbie to Dave's Garden as well as to roses!
Revdral, I'm going to try roses this year for the first time too! I hope I can pull it off, I'm going to try a climber and some knockout rose bushes.....there are a few places that will test your soil & tell you how to amend it for whatever you're trying to grow (I'm in MA too) one is UConn, I think UMass does it too but charges more. You can find the forms online. I built a raised bed last year, in full sun...I'm going for it! lol
