White looking mold

Oak Grove, MO

I have this white looking stuff on the top of my starter veggies and flowers. It doesn't seem to be affecting my plants but it looks like it is spreading to surrounding plants. HELP what can I do to get rid of this stuff.

Can you post a pic?

I will take a pic tonight.

Help the camera doesn't pick up the white stuff so I can't post a pic. Does anyone know if this is mold or is this something else.

Hartville, OH

Is it salt residue from watering the plants with heavily softened water?

No this looks more like mold or a fungus.

I don't know what it is without a pic (Well, not sure I would even with a pic) but you should remove as much of it as possible. Try washing the leaves as best you can. Are your conditions really moist and humid? That gives really good conditions for mold and fungus growth, try letting things dry out. It might be some kind of disease or a pest. There is a type of pest -mealybugs-that is kind of white and fuzzy looking. If it was severly infested with them, I guess it could appear like mold, although I've never had a problem with them on seedlings. I've used a small amount of antibacterial dish soap the clean leaves on my plants (rinsed with good amount of water) but never tried it on seedlings. Are they seedlings or larger plants? Where do you have them at?

I have them in a spare bedroom in front of the windows. These are starter veggies and flowers. I have used peat pods to start them, the white fuzzy stuff is on the dirt, I have not seen any on the plant it self.

Scrape the mold off the dirt. Try letting the top layer dry out some in between waterings. Any time you see the mold start to come back remove it, it will help control it. If it's not affecting your plants, they should be all right until you plant them. The mold might attract fungus gnats though, so make sure you keep up on removing it. I've tried fungicides before, haven't found any that really work without being harmful to the plants. Peat pots can harbor types of mold and stuff, so maybe next year try plastic trays or some other alternative. Could also come from the dirt, make sure you use sterlized soil.

I will try that. Thanks for you help.
