how to build a barrel wildlife pond

manchester, United Kingdom

Hi all, new to this subject but was wondering if anyone here has built the above and could explain to me what to get etc?/
I am thinking of attacting frogs etc but have been sufing the net and have not come up with a solid answr as to whether I can actually attact wildlife?
Most of the searches have come back with big gardens with built-in ponds, too big for my garden.
The problems i think i will have is:-
space, location (live in the city so will i actually attact frogs etc??
2 kids. (lol)
Any help would be appreciated and whether this is a project that I can actually see wildlife or am i wasting my time??
Sorry for being negative but I do live in the city and was hoping I can still attact wildlife.
adding pictures of my garden so that it will give you some idea of whether i can do this and if so where is a good place to do the barrel?
Regards

Are you close (say within a hundred(?) meters) of some sort of natural area or preserved corridor or simply an abandoned area where frogs might manage to exist in a pond or drainage ditch? In your very wet climate, perhaps amphibians can range a little further than they can here.

I'm not sure a barrel pond is going to be the best thing for frogs--I think most of them need a shallower area on the side of the pond. If your kids are really young then I'd also worry about the drowning hazard, you'd never be able to leave them unattended in the yard unless you have the pond fenced off. Given your urban setting, I wonder if it might be easier to work on attracting birds or butterflies? If you plant the right plants or put up a feeder for the birds you definitely ought to attract some of those. I definitely think you'll see more wildlife that way than you would with a pond.
