Ok, I am an animal lover, but i have my limits, these darn Moles and Voles are destroying my lawn. I have tried everything, sprays, pellets, i even tryed bobcat urine.... yep, i purchased bobcat urine, i read it deters them...... I dont want to kill them, i just want them to relocate. additionally, my property backs up to acres and acres of woods .....eek...... any ideas.
Moles/Voles Destroying my grass
A daschund? Mine took care of that problem for me. My buddy has a small poodle that has done the same for her. We had given up on being able to walk across the lawn without turning an ankle & etc. when we were given the young daschund. We too had tried everything on the market and the dog was the only thing that worked.
Jack Russells are supposed to be good too.
For the moles, you might try putting down milky spore to control the grubs, that's what they eat so if you get rid of the grubs the moles will go look for food somewhere else. It won't help with the voles though so if you're positive you have both then that'll only get rid of half the problem.
I had a problem with voles last year. I hope I do not this year. This year I dug up the area that they hit the worst last year just to see what was left. WEll so far I do not see much. I am only hoping that they moved on. But I am not so sure. I tried everything. I was told that someting called liquid vole works but it is toxic to small animals like cats and dogs.
I have a 100lb Weimeraner. He is no help at all. and his urine does not deter. I also tryed coffee grounds and human hair (seperately) the little buggers are still destroying everything, including the landscaping/mulched areas. I dig and plant new every year and i dont see grubs, so i cant imagine what the little buggers are eating. I will put down more grub control..... and see about getting a outdoor cat :) i already have 3 but they are strictly in doors.
oh well!
Do you know whether you have moles or voles? If you have moles they can be controlled by getting rid of the grubs, but with voles that won't help.
With voles, the only thing that seems to help is a varmint killing animal or planting into a cage of 1/4 inch mesh hardware cloth (screening). We do this with the tulips, since the squirrels love to eat them.
How do you do that cloth in a 4 x30 flower bed?
Yeah, that is the real problem with voles and moles. If we could only bury enough fence to keep them out!
I'm 95% sure we have both Moles and Voles. I have seen Moles both alive and dead (they somehow end up in my pool and they are not very good swimmers) Voles i have not seen in a while.
I guess my plan of attack will be to 1. get rid of the grubs if i have them 2. get an outdoor vole catcher i.e...... a cat :)
....cage planting would not work, my property is just over an acre. UGH!!!!
thanks everyone!
Hey Babyrio, do you know anyone that has any spare cats....lol
