Need to Move 2 Leyland Cypress

Jackson, NJ

Hi,
I need to move 2 Lelyand Cypress, and i can not find any information about the roots. How do they grow? down? to they flair out? I planted 2 a couple of years ago, and they got too big (my fault) for the area, also they are near and inground pool, and was told the roots may destroy the pool?

Can anyone help?
Thanks soo much :)

They do grow very large very fast. When I bought mine from a local nursery I deal with a lot, the guy told me not to plant it too close to a building because, not only do they get large, they have rather shallow roots and will blow over pretty easily in the wind. If you have to move them anyway, then you have nothing to lose by just going ahead with it. You didn't say how tall they are. The feeder roots will likely be somewhere close to the outer edge of your tree at it's widest area so I'd start digging there and try to go down until you can see the bottom of the tap root. Have your planting hole where you intend to move it ready before you dig it up. BTW, mine is way out in my front yard and when Hurricane Rita came through, it did blow it over (it was about 12 feet tall at the time). DH and I went out later and stood it back up and repacked the soil around it. We also drove a tall T-post into the ground and tied it off. It hasn't blown over since. They sure are pretty trees.

They are very pretty trees. I just love them. They were both planted on the same day about 3 years ago... one is 20-25 feet and the other is 12-15 they were 3 feet tall when i bought them. I am going to move them regardless, since I'm worried about the roots growing into the side of my pool. I hope they survive the move.... the first weekend here in NJ it does not rain is when i plan to move them.
Thanks for your help
