we moved into our house in august last year and this is what i got done in a couple weeks.i can not wait to get back out there and finish we have the rest of the mulch in the shed :)there where 3 silver maples along this fence that we cut down,i got out as many roots as i could, but this was after ripping out all the grass with this forked hand tool...so there is still alot of roots down there.this garden will be mainly trees and shrubs just for the birds :) i still have to transplant my garden from our last home-which is mainly lilies-those i think i will make a huge raised bed for.i have spent most of the winter looking at books and nursery websites,i have a idea of what else i want.still want some pines that don't get to big but hard to find.well thanks for looking!
this is a pic before we cut down the other 2 maples, that was alot of grass-and then after decided to make the garden wider :)
pics of garden i started last fall
front yard-we cut down another silver maple-these trees get huge and seed and are also week.my dad had one in his front yard that was about 100ft tall just huge(my dad is way into gardening he paid $6 hundred for some pine tree that was only 3ft).well anyways i haven't really touched the front, besides planting a yellow ginko.don't really know what i want out there, gonna get rid of the currant hedge along walk way for sure!that will be fun to rip out. well thanks for looking at my pics.
here are some updates the hill of dirt looks like this now.i planted a yellow butterfly magnolia tree 1st and then bought plant after plant.seeing how my guy is korean i decided to buy plants that i thought would be in a asian garden.i will get some kind of dwarf pine (i think) for the spot in the corn that is open.i have a pump in the bowl for water movement and the birds love it,and the butterfly's love the butterfly bush-i hope it survives the winter :)one thing that sucked was all the ants that took over this hill, they were bitting me all over.there are also astilbe and ferns.i put down a weed barrier and 24 bags of mulch and 1 hour1/2 later i was ready for planting.
okay heres a picture of the long garden along the back fence.the pines are dwarf's.in this garden i have the fring tree,4 dogwoods, 2 viburnums,3 hydrangae's,2 rhododendron,2 elderberry's,3 junipers,1 rose bush,4 clumps of grasses,2 honeysuckle bush's,2 honeysuckle vines,1 non climbing clemetis,4 spiraea,1 willow oh and a purple smoke bush there is quite a variety out in my yard.i wanted privacy and to attract birds.it's working i have blue jays, alot of differnt woodpeckers, cardinals,i even seen a oriole and a cedar waxwing :).wrens made homes in both of the bird houses i put up-they like my mans work.well here some pics.
here's a pic of my flower garden.in the back i have a smoke bush,sweetshrub,3 ninebarks,2 juniper, oregon pine,3 azalea,5 weigelia, and a tamaris.flowers some astilibe,a weird fern, gayfeather, coneflower, blackeyed susan, daylilies, peonies, hibiscius alot more but don't feel like finding the spelling here some pics.this garden is for the yellow finches and butterfly's and hummers.i have seen one hummmer.now this garden will change as it grows i do want to make it wider :)i just hate digging up grass! the bees also love this garden they have made a nest in the ground by it.
wow girl you've been busy. Everything looks great and seems to be thriving. Talk about a green thumb. Congrats on all your hard work.
