Hi:
My kids have a pumpkin patch (10 acres).
Each year we plant three rows 8 feet apart and then leave a drive row of 25 to 30 feet. This allows us to drive a trailer down the row to pick up pumpkins. We have always tilled this drive row. I am considering plants a legume in the drive row to stop weeds, soil erosion and put down nitrogen.
My question is this: Will the legume produce so many flowers that the bees will not pollinate the pumpkins or should I mow it off before it flowers?
Thinking about White Dutch Clover or Hairy Vetch.
Thanks,
legumes for nitrogen
