Can anyone tell me why houseplant leaves get dark, dry and brittle tips sometimes?
Houseplants
Usually from low humidity and dry heat in your house. If you kept the humidity high enough in your house to mimic most houseplant's natural environment, you'd probably have mold/fungus growing everywhere. Try misting with a spray bottle to help raise the humidity.
I don't know why my words went to the bottom!! The humidity is good for my very bad sinuses.
XMX is right about what she said. I have a humidity gauge that I bought at walmart for less than 10 dollars. I also have a humidifier. If the humidity is less than 35% then I turn on the humidifier.Don't let the humidity get over about 38% or it will be to high for your home. Don't want to cause anything bad to start growng.

I have a plant -- think it's called a Peace Lily (?) that gets those brown tips. I have learned to keep a little spray bottle right next to it and every couple of days I spritz it all over -- no more brown tips.
Hope that works for you.

P.S. I also take scissors and clip off the brown bits, just because I don't like to look at them.
