Preach tree problem.

Asheville, NC(Zone 7a)

One of my peach trees has not come out yet this year the others are blooming and budding leaves. The branches are brown and break easily no green the only green I saw was way down on the truck and it was very little is this tree dead theres no buds this year like there usually is. The trees 3 years old dwarf white Elberta peach. Editted for misspelling of peach tree in the title.

Sorry, it sounds like it is dead. I checked my Rose of Sharon today and I have the same problem. One is dead. I broke several limbs and they just snapped off. I lost 2 last year.

it may come back from the bottom on both cases

If it comes back from the bottom wont it take a long time to produce good sized branches for blooms and fruit. Also would it lose its graft characteristics like the dwarfing part and the part that makes the peach the kind it is. I think peach trees are grafted aren,t they. So Would I be better to just plant a new one because wound'nt it lose it shape. What would have killed it last year it fruited good but the leaves did not look as good as they usually do. I just assumed it was the drought. Thankyou you both

If it's grafted (which some peaches definitely are, but some may not be), pay attention to where any new sprouts are coming up from. If they're from the base of the tree, then they'll be from the rootstock so they won't be the same as the tree you had originally. But depending on how far down the dead part goes, it still could sprout from somewhere above the graft and that would be the same kind of tree you've had all along.

As far as what killed it--since it was a younger tree then the drought could have done it, but there are also various insects and diseases that could have been to blame (stress from the drought could also have made it more susceptible to pests & diseases). Unfortunately unless you have some pictures from last year it'll be hard to be certain what the problem was.

Thankyou.
