Arrangement suggestions needed for the following
I really just want to get these tulips happy.
50 Crocus Mix Color
24 Muscari Mix
10 Allium Blue onions - 21", 2" heads
9 black tulips
9 white tulips
6 Angelique tulips
Was thinking a Black and White cluster in center of planter with the Muscari dark (Blue) as a border.
had considered putting 3 Angeliques in center - the bloom mid season but I need something more than just those three.
Id love to finish these off with a topping of that green moss stuff but dont know what it is, nor where to get it.
will have to plant tomorrow - I awoke with Hon spray painting the planters I wanted to use. he thought he was helping but now i worry the fumes my be toxic.
I'll wash another set of pots out tonite and use those instead.
Suggestions please. Yes I think I know the correct planting depth:
tulips - 6", muscari - 4", crocus 3" - some tulips want a greater depth.
OK
what do I enrich the soil with?
Would it be safer to plant in starter soil or packaged garden soil.
the stuff they sell as potting soil seem very heavy to me but again advice please.
getting there . . .
oh the pic is the Angelique
Bulb Suggestions . . .planting/potting arrangement
It is kind of late to be planting tulips isn't it? They generally come up in the early spring and decline with warmer weather. Maybe someone with more experience with tulips can advise you on this. As far as planting in pots, there again, have not had much luck in pots although the muscari planted in one pot has pretty much naturalized in my wooded area. Makes one wonder how this happens, especially when they are in pots, then you see more of them sprouting up 10' or more away. The Angelique you show is a beauty. Good luck with them.
That is my thought as well...same thing with the crocuses, I think you usually plant those in the fall and they are one of the first things up and blooming in the spring. If the tulips were pre-chilled by whoever you bought them from then you might be able to plant them now and still have them bloom but if they weren't pre-chilled then I think it's too late for this year.
As far as soil, if they're going in pots you need to use a soil-less mix (generally anything labeled for containers is soil-less mix). Bagged garden soil won't work since it is too heavy to use in containers. Most potting mixes have some fertilizer mixed in them already so you may not need to add anything, but they sell fertilizers made especially for bulbs so you could look for one of those if you want.
thank you .
yes these have been chilled.
