Gorgeous shot Margaret!

Thanks for starting the new thread!

Here is another shot of the chickadee with the mal-formed bill. He looks nice and plump, so with the help of the suet feeders and peanut butter I put out for him, I think he'll make it through the winter.

Thanks Margaret...nice start to brighten ones day or end it... :)

There were sooo many great pics on the last thread!!

This is a picture of the same Pine Siskin as above. Looking straight at us, showing the stripes on the breast.

Herbert's Pond has long been a dumping place for unwanted fowl, and I even found a kitten there once, (now happy at my daughters home!) but this is about the last thing I expected. I think it's a Guinea fowl, but I don't know if it's a hen or a rooster. My guess is hen. You tell me, 'cause it's not in my bird book. ;-)

These are sure not pretty. Looks like a thorn on it's head.

Guinea fowl are certainly noisy & good 'watch' animals. Probably the noise annoyed the previous owner, but still no excuse to dump it.

Tiller, OR(Zone 8a)

Over the years I have seen many ducks and several geese there, that certainly at one time were barnyard animals. Most have done quite well. Someone I know took an old goose there last year, because it would not stay on their side of the highway, and they were afraid it would get hit by a car. Goose (big white one with the knob on the bill) is quite content at the pond, and is always seen in the company of a white duck.

Tiller, OR(Zone 8a)

For two years in a row I've had a Slate-colored Junco coming to my feeding areas.

White-crowned Sparrows are showing up.

Stellers are in great numbers here. They wait for me to go outside, and then fly in by the dozens. They can hold at least 65 BOSS in their crop, which they usually take away and bury somewhere. That would be okay, if their memory was as strong as their greed. They seem to delight in frightening the little birds away from the feeders.

Great pics everyone!

tiger, That's quite a place; are there a lot of birds there? Love the White-crowned Sparrow!

ava, I can't believe that Chickadee!

nanny, Like the Downy!

Quoting:

Yep, Guineafowl. No sex differences, so can't tell whether male or female. The thing on its head is called a casque, they use it in display, ditto the face wattles.

Beautiful start for the new thread Margaret and you know how much I love those Rainbow Lorikeets. What a gorgeous shot!

Nice pics everyone...here is my female Eastern Bluebird checking out the worms in the caged feeder this morning.

Happy Sunday to all, with a special thanks to Margaret for staring the thread with such a beautiful photo. Thanks to all of you for sharing your pics. Ava, I have never seen anything like that Chickadee's beak. It looks like he's doing OK, though. A blessed afternoon is wished for all.

She is beautiful dellrose!

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

Beautiful shot Margaret, a nice red flowering gum to set off those bright colours too!

The Chickadee's beak is extremely long ava! It's lucky to have a good place to feed!

nanny, what did you say to that Downy, lol, it looks shocked!

Love the Stellar tiger, and the quiff!

Loved your group shot on the last thread Rose, quite some exchange going on there!

Common Grackle sounding off was a great shot too pelle!

This Wood Pigeon was sunning by my hedge yesterday, took no notice of me! It could be my regular momma.

The four or five inches of snow we received over night wasn’t exactly welcome. However, the snow hanging on the spruce tree out side the kitchen window, did provide a nice background, for a few shot of Redpolls, waiting a tune at the feeder.

Hope I get to see some Redpolls one day. Gary, you have my sympathy for your extended winter. It's snowing very hard here right now, and I had my fill of it months ago. The warblers should be showing up at the creek, but so far there's no activity there except the Black-capped Dee's and the Stellers Jays. Even down at Herbert's Pond I've only seen a few butter butts, and there should be several varieties of the warblers.

pelle, usually there are lots of birds here, yes. But many of the spring arrivals are delayed with the season.

adel, you getting snow down there too?

This is a good way to spend a snowy day. ;-) At least I can see your photos. Thanks to you all!

To duc back on the last thread about my oriole nest...that is an old one nest. They have not arrived here yet. Probably at least another 3 weeks. I am watching the apple tree that I first spotted them in last year. Whe it starts to flower I will be getting the buffet out!

I put a feeder out today for any hummer scouts heading this way who might need some refreshment.

I had stopped at my dear friend John's house...his sons were cleaning up the yard. They are putting it on the market next week. Anyway, was telling one how much I miss John and still expect to see him...and that I have been checking to see if any Blue Birds are nesting in his houses. But told him I hadn't seen any around them yet, thought they are around.

SO I am walking on the road heading home.... and I there was this guy...so fitting since John loved them so much!

Another Dark-eyed Junco. I guess it's good their being so friendly since they'll be heading North soon.
