Watering- now(70's)and in the summer(100's)

Atascadero, CA

We just planted our first vegetable garden in half wine barrels. Our weather has been reaching a high of 75 this week. In the summer our temperatures will be in the high 90's or low 100's. I am watering by hand. How often should I be watering? How much water? What about when our temperatures start to rise? When we are in the full heat of summer? Just an FYI we planted strawberries, cucumber, zuchini, tomatoes, carrots, bell pepper, soy beans, and peas. Thanks for your help!!!!

Depends on how much rain you get. Deep watering is more effective than just sprinkling some water each day. Just a sprinkling of water encourages the root to stay shallow instead of growing deeper. When you do water don't water in the heat of the day...water in the morning or evening. Each vegatable has there own watering needs but according to my book on gardening (my gardeining bible I call it) it says thatplants need 1 -1 1/2 inches of water per week.
