just stay away from the mint jelly! lol
I'm with you on the Rosemary and garlic.
Hey Good Lookin' : Part Two (Or, Whatcha Got Cookin'??)
Had leg of lamb every year on my birthday since childhood. Completely lost my taste for it. Too heavy / strong tasting for me.
The butcher where I get my Polish Sausage, etc. has a very good ground lamb that is great on the grill. You can also mix in onions, herbs, etc. Though, in general, I am not a big fan of lamb. I do like the grilled lamb burgers, though.
I love lamb chops, but don't like the strong taste. I found that if I trimmed off every speck of fat it didn't have that unpleasant after taste. Might have been my imagination that it worked too...
Never tried ground lamb.
Pixie - it sounds like we are having a similar menu........we are having my niece, my BIL, my niece's best friend and her father for dinner. So far, I'm doing shrimp cocktail with homemade cocktail sauce with lots of fresh horseradish, baked ham with honey, roasted potatoes with fresh garlic and rosemary, green beans from my patio garden with sliced almonds, rolls or buttermilk biscuits (whichever one I think I can do better - we are in the South, after all!) with our wild Concord grape jelly from the farm, blueberry bread and muffins (went crazy baking for our neighborhood picnic, so froze some for Easter), and a decorated "half Easter Egg" cake and coffee for dessert. Oh, I'm also thinking of making broccoli/bacon salad since I have some broccoli ready on my patio as well.
Willie - I'm with you.....can't have enough garlic and rosemary!! My plant here is huge!
Happy Easter everyone! Enjoy your feasts!!
MMmmm
We will have ham with pineapple, roast beef, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, asparagus, brussel sprouts, eggs, rolls, cinnamon buns, coconut cake, pineapple upside down cake.
Sounds very yummy! We are going to the farm for Easter. There will be ham, turkey, kugli---my contribution---asparagus, & whatever my dil makes for dessert. There will be a houseful, 5 kids five years old & under. Should be fun. We usually have fresh keilbasa, but only if I bring it, & since I'm having a houseful Sat. night, that's not happening this year! Laughed about the horseradish---the only time Mom & Dad made it, they ended up with it in the yard---couldn't take the fumes in the house!
I have a friend, Debi, that makes a pineapple bread pudding to go with ham---very yummy.
Oh, that's a good idea about the pineapple pudding. It is delish!! We also are having ham and chicken, asparagus, carrots, cole slaw, mashed pots. A lemon pound cake and a bunny cake. Hopefully the 2 granddaughters staying here will help with that. We'll have 5 that are 4yr and younger. Will be busy!!!
My mouth is watering!!!
oooh, those menus all sound so yummy! I'd love the recipe for the pineapple bread pudding. Anyone have that?
I just looked in the church cookbook, cuz I thought someone had made it for a covered dish supper. Not there. Now, I'm on a mission. Try to be back later.
I googled Pineapple Bread pudding and also Baked pineapple casserole
It looks like baked pineapple casserole from allrecipes.com is the one most like I remember, but there were oodles of them.
This is the recipe from my friend: 3/4 stick of butter, 1/2 cup of sugar, 2 eggs, 1/2 cup of pineapple juice, 1 20oz can of crushed pineapple---drained, & 8 slices of firm white bread, cubed. Melt butter, mix with sugar---add eggs, one at a time. Add the pineapple, the juice & bread. Bake at 350 for 30-40 min. It's really good.
Thanks, Jan and Robin!! That does sound good!
Robindog, I made your friend's recipe for Pineapple bread--a last minute addition to my Easter dinner. It was GOOD! I'd never made it or even heard of it, but I thought, "why not? It sounds like it would be good with ham." So easy, and even the kids liked it. Especially the kids. I made it the night before and just warmed it up in the microwave before our dinner, but next time I'll make it "fresh" because now I know how easy it is.
YUM! Cherry-Berry Pie looks good!
it was!
here is the flan left overs
forgot to take pics of the ham... it turned out really good... we don't have much leftovers from it.. when we rested it I did not cover and the coating stayed crunchy... but it took an hour and a half longer than I thought... I felt bad making everyone wait... but can't rush greatness ... LOL ... we picked the biggest hock piece we could find
Very cool, Allison! My mom made a great cheesecake.
that is one thing I haven't tried yet.... but someday will
i had 2 slices of rhubbard/strawberry pie yesterday
and for sweetness the recipe calls for 2 cups of sugar - MIL only puts in one.
my neighbor brought over strawberry / rhubarb and apple / cranberry pies yesterday as well... too much stuff in the house now
Glad you enjoyed the recipe CapeCodder---we actually made it for 200 folks at a church ham dinner, & no leftovers! My dil made cheesecake yesterday with a blueberry sauce from the farm's berries---very tasty. Today is my DH's birthday, & a friend who used to teach for him, made him a black bottom pie---she does this every year---I'm trying to resist, but I did have a taste---can't let DH eat the whole pie!
Allison - your pie and flan look terrific! Glad the dinner went so well.......I'm sure it was worth waiting for!! LOL
Emily - I'm glad to know the pineapple bread pudding was a hit. I really want to try that! I ran out of energy for Easter.
Robin - please wish DH a very Happy Birthday from me and Hank!
Victor - what kind of cheesecake??? Yummy???
Bill - glad you got your strawberry rhubarb hit!! LOL
