Storing and planting bareroot strawberry plants

Campbellsville, KY

I am very new to gardening, last year was the first year. Overall we had a decent year, but didn't have much of a variety. This year I'm expanding. The strawberries I ordered have come in, however I am not ready to plant them, my questions are:

1. I am in zone 6, when can I plant these?

2. How should I store these until I can get them in the ground?

Thanks.

Can you not temporarily plant them somewhere indoors?

Wherever you keep them, you'll need to pot them up until you can get them outside, you won't be able to leave them bare-root for an extended period of time.

Ok. I have a few pots that I'm not using, so I'll just plant them in those for now. Different people have told me different things as far as outdoor planting. Some say now is ok, others say not to. Either way the garden isn't ready yet, put I'm hoping to get it tilled some this weekend or next week sometime.

I have a mass of baby strawberry plants all sitting in pots - the pots aren't very practical however it's the best option I have until I have the time to put them in their proper place.

I had fun growing my strawberries; I bought 6 plants last August and I now have around 25 plants :) so I'm looking forward to summer

You can "heel" them in. All that is, is plant them temporarily anywhere you have bare ground. Just unpack them, soak the roots in water for an hour before planting. Lay them down at an angle and just cover the roots with soil and keep them moist.
