I love gerber daisies and would like to plant some beside my walk in the front of the house. It gets sun exposure from 9:00 until 3:00 daily. I know nothing about these plants except they are beautiful and would love to have them in my yard. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.
When do I plant gerber daisies
I know that these are listed as full sun plants, but I found them to be VERY prone to wilting during the heat of the day (even if there was plenty of moisture in the soil). They always perked up when evening came and the temperature cooled off, but in such a prominent position along your front walk they could tend to give off the impression that you don't take care of your garden if they're wilting every time people come over! Maybe with your higher humidity they'd behave better though--hopefully someone from your area will have some experience to share.
I can't help but they are sold as house plants here.
I hope someone gives you better advice but I LOVE the flowers :).
I simply LOVE gerber daisies! Here in my zone though (zone 7) it gets so hot and humid that I can only grow the wilting version that Ecrane is talking about. I have replaced mine with coneflowers, which to me, is just as beautiful, but takes a lot less effort to get to grow!
Lisa
My DD grows them next to her front porch with no problems. Hers are always beautiful.
How much sun does she get there?
8 to 9 hours a day.
Mine in full sun last summer wilted, too, despite plenty of water and humidity. I'm trying again this year with afternoon high shade.
i've always planted mine in a pot and they wilted, this year i will try putting them in the ground. they are so pretty and colorful!
I have a gerber that's doing great- bought nearly a year ago at Kmart!! It wasn't doing so great until I put it in a spot that gets more sun and it has now gone from one plant to two!! I have three plants now- all in pots, and the one has finally given me some flowers!! The sun isn't so direct as they are on a balcony but they do seem to enjoy the sun- and plenty of water! Hope this helps!
