Garden photos of '09.....#8

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

that's good. Especially in about 20 yrs!!!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

RC when I bought it the description said French Pink

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

That's sort of what I was thinking was a willow with "french" as the common name, but that was as far as I got with it :-p they are really pretty trees when they're in bloom!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

the birds really like it.. must be a good sized branch

Stamford, CT

Wow! Thanks. Hardly deserve that! Nice shot.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

What a wonderful tradition abbyday! April 1st for me. Perhaps it could be a Spring's Here You Fool ^_^ tradition.

The ground is still froze - how can we do that?

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Blowdryer thawing. Crazy Canuck trick.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

How big is yours?

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Seriously coffee grounds and black plastic in the sun will thaw enough to push the seeds in. TADA!

ROFLOL

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Looks like a big sucker, not a big blower.^_^

Stamford, CT

Well guess when I lived in VT it was a little tricky to get to the soil much less thru it! Here in Stamford I plant my sweet peas against a rock wall so the soil there is pretty thawed out at this point due to the radiant heat. Maybe April Fool's Day is a better option if you are farther north.
Speaking of April Fools look what is blooming in my garden today. Hahahaha

OMG..... Anybody else other than me, know where that picture was taken??? he he

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Hee hee. Nice Peony. Which is it? And what is the JM behind it?!

Stamford, CT

That was a mislabeled Tree Peony that I bought a couple years ago, was supposed to be white. The Thread Leaf JM behind is glorious all year round! Have you ever been to Oliver Nurseries in Fairfield, CT? You should see their display gardens, over 75 yrs old. We get a lot of our best stuff there. Excellent alpines and concrete planters, like this.

No, never been there. Must add it to my list. Do you know the JM variety?

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

great pics Abby! I really like the peony.

I still can't get over that picture of what looks like a giant vaccuum cleaner.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

The Jm reminds me of Waterfall. Although, there are a few others that remind me of waterfall as well.

Stamford, CT

redchic .. that picture is hilarious. I love that peony. and Victor I will look back in one of my many started garden journals and see if I can find what type. It turns fiery orange in the fall, chartreuse in the spring with red stems. I adore it. Now, to dinner. Here little brisket.....

There is one called Waterfall!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Redchic it looks like its Interstate 5 on the sign in the pic so the giant blowdryer is headed for Oregon if you need it ^_^

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

The 'giant sucking sound' you hear is our tax dollars going to AIG! Thanks Tim!

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

lol, aren't AIG headquaters over your way? lol

That's what I was thinking Dahlia! lol. At that intersection, they had to be in Seattle, and probably headed South! Seattle must be getting tired of the record amounts of snow they had this year!! although that pic is dated for when they had several, nasty, back to back, ice storms. Either way, it's probably made it's way to Eugene by now :-p Perfecting timing for the latest round of snow too!!

Very jealous of the photos--the camellias were very nice! My stepdaughter put one in at her home on Long Island last year---I hope it lived. Oliver Nurseries looks like a good one, Abby--have you been to Hollandia?

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i just had a waterfall delivered today!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Little messy, no?

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

You had a waterfall delivered huh? now that's not something you hear every day! That's what I was thinking.... a little messy?

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

OMG wha is sure to freeze off his toes for sure with the spillage and no plastic bags in his boots. WE NEED PICS OF THE NEW WATERFALL DEAR WHA! Thanks muchly.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

Definitely we need pics of the waterfall!

Jo Ann, I mentioned sometime back that I would take a picture of Hellebore micha when it was in full bloom. Well, it finally is, and I have finally given up on waiting for a day when there was enough light to take a good picture AND I was at home for the particular 10 min. stretch in which the sun appeared! Anyhow, so this was yesterday and had to be done with a flash in the middle of the day!
After it's done blooming, I need to move it about a foot back and two feet to the left. I needed to move the little Andromeda back which I knew would make it too crowded, but wanted to wait to move the hellebore until after seeing it bloom.

RC Thats so pretty.I have no idea what my Nigers are up to

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Pretty.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

Thanks. I just can't rave enough about that Hellebore, it doesn't get anymore attention or fertilizer than the others and it just seems to thrive like that. It's only problem is that it doesn't come in any colors other than white or light pink :-p The one remaining niger that I have is literally about 1/3 the size of this one, and that's the one that lived! The niger that died was about 2 feet to the right of 'micha', and was about 1/10 the size of it.

Stamford, CT

Hellebores and Iris Reticulata are my latest obsessions! I have one dark purple one blooming right now, glorious, the one I put in two years ago, the ones I put in last fall are a little slower to wake up. What a wonderful delight they are this time of year. Will take some photos when I get back from my Irish breakfast!
I have never been to Hollandia but sounds like I need to get my clogs on and beat feet over there RobinDog. Here is a recipe for Shepard's pie, if you are looking for something yummy, easy and inexpensive for dinner. http://www.abbyjenkins.com
