I just wanted to share the birth of my ferns this year.
Birth of a Fern
It's kind of like a baby being born. Only it's a baby fern. Very nice.
How lovely! Are you going to eat it? (Joking, though I grew up surrounded by 100 acres of wilderness and we did eat some fiddleheads in the spring.)
I have never heard of eating them... :D
Not all ferns are edible, but the ones that grew back home were (probably ostrich ferns). They're called fiddleheads because you harvest them when they are at this early stage that looks like a fiddlehead. They're something like asparagus and according to Health Canada must be cooked before eating. Here's some more info about eating fiddleheads: http://www.tourismnewbrunswick.ca/AboutNewBrunswick/FourSeasons/Spring/Fiddleheads.aspx A spring delicacy!
Very nice! I bought a bag of 4 at lowe's about a month ago with the intention of starting it indoors. Still no luck!
