Meet Jackpot

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

(Moxon quickly opens pic to see if Catscan is being facetious, but fortunately, Moxon actually had clean nails today!)

Difficult indeed. Seriously, it's like a dove grey mixed with a buff. Not a dark grey, more like a self blue type of tone. I will check again tomorrow, by which time the second and possibly third cheese should have emerged. I will try to take a picture in natural light and see what we think. By then, we should be finished with the TWT routine and be fully fluffed.

Lodi, United States

I am still thinking pullet. Full fluffy status will help. As will comparison with compatriot cheeses.

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

I'm thinking pullet also.. there seems to be no yellow.. the yellow really shows up pretty good too.. The roos are also a lighter brown.. that chick is pretty dark!

I still say.. wut wut wut

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Also.. the roos are slow feathering.. you will know positive in a couple of days.. full wing feathers, pullet.. nubs= roo

Lodi, United States

Grey/tan breast, fast feathering, darker heads with prominent "V"= Barnevelder pullet.

ZZ and I spend waaaaay to much time studying this.

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

I'm studying a Barnevelder/EE cross.. miracle baby and a living doll.. Barnevelder pullet color with muffs!
My lil Boo Boo got some wax worms today.. :)

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Yeeeessss.....I begin to see the problem here. OCBD (obsessive compulsive barnevelder disorder). Two serious cases. An intervention may be necessary...

Lodi, United States

We already have an evil Nemesis--but I am not allowed to speak of him here.

Did anyone see the movie "They Might be Giants"? (not the musical group). George C Scott as a delusional Sherlock Holmes and Joanne Woodward as his unwilling psychiatric counselor, Dr. Watson?

It would help illustrate the problem if you had.

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Well, no further cheeses escaped during the night, however, a further cheese module now has a hole, so that makes 3 swiss cheeses and 2 gruyere, but I can hear things occurring inside the gruyeres, so I think they are making an attempt at becoming a swiss cheese.

Daylight pictures of first cheese. I am going with pullet.

I blame her radical Californian breeding for her refusal to declare a gender--but I agree, I think she is a pullet. Congratulations! And best wishes for your aging cheese.

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Ah hah! Of course! I never thought of that! She/He is a Californian after all!

Clarkson, KY

All this reading and there's no Mozzarella?!

Elbridge, NY(Zone 5a)

Oh my, I just caught up from when I went to bed!! I was biting my nails and reading with great anticipation! (making me wait) Jay LOL Its a girl!! I have totally learned soooo much about this breed. It is so cool to know by color when they are born if its a boy or girl! Are there a lot of breeds like that? Congrats on the cheese! Awaiting news on other slices! :D

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Awww, lil toot tooot baby.. I love that face.. Congrats Commander.. I do hope the others escape!

Sapello, NM(Zone 5b)

Hesh is perfectly clear on what gender hesh is, it's only our crippling need to assign gender roles that is causing confusion and mental disarray. =0) WE need to update our data files and get more flexible in our outlook on the roles a chicken can take on. If we were more secure in our own identity, we would not be in such a rush or need to know who the other was so we would know how to relate to hesh.

LOL

(Hesh is a bi-gender or maybe beyond gender? term from one of Marge Piercy's books... I think)

Jay

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

I am hereby perfectly flexible as to my chicken's gender role. I would just like it to inform me of whether it will lay an egg or not.

Sapello, NM(Zone 5b)

LOL... snort.
It refuses to be labeled...

Ooops... hesh refuses to be labeled.

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh gosholly... you could sure fit a mess o'chickens in that! And baby lambsies and kids and crias and duckley-wuckleys...

Elbridge, NY(Zone 5a)

And llamas, and goats, and geese, and... Is she coming through NY? LOL
Those Californian chicks sure take their sweet time. hump!! Will check back in awhile. ;)

Sapello, NM(Zone 5b)

A cria is a baby llama... I think. Or is it a baby alpaca? It's a baby something, I know. And I'll bet C has one or one on the way. LOL

Elbridge, NY(Zone 5a)

Ohhhhh, I see, I thought you were making up animals! hehehe Like a heffalumph... :0

Sapello, NM(Zone 5b)

She's probably got one of those too. Would a baby heffalumph be a halfalet?
