Oquawka, IL(Zone 5a)

Look what showed up at my feeder yesterday! Thanks Gardenpom :-)

Sorry about the pic. It was an ugly, gray day. But, I still had to get a picture of him!

Rose,

I'd send him your way, but I'm kinda greedy! I'm keeping him here! ;-)

Congratulations! He looks so tiny......I have not seen any so far today. They may finally be gone.

That's a nice feeder rose, looks like it is home made.

Thanks rntx. My husband made it several years ago, but didn't use treated lumber. Now it's starting to fall apart, so he said that he'd have to make a new one. The things we all do for our birds!!!

Quoting:
but didn't use treated lumber

Very wise! Some of the preservatives are quite toxic and could leach into the bird food.

OH OH OH OH!! I looked out the window today and guess what I saw .... being that this is a thread for buntings it shouldn't be too hard to guess! 2 Indigo beauties! Well, one brilliant blue male and his pretty little wife. It was mid day when the feeders are typically slow so I really was not expecting to see anything there, certainly not that! It is a lifer for me, hope they stick around a few days! I am just so happy to have seen a male with his full blue coloring!!!! YAY!

Congratulations rn!!!

I had an immature Indigo male show up yesterday. First Indigo for me, although a neighbor had told me he sees them on the creek behind his house. He stayed around all day, eating Nyger. There was another feeder nearby with a finch/black sunflower blend, but he never went near it. Hopefully he will stay around.

I've had Painted buntings the past four years, but none this year. They just stay a few days as well. I'm hoping something will show up this year.

Here is a pic of the little Indigo. He is eating Nyger droppings from a feeder located overhead.

Still hasn't gotten his full blue, but so beautiful!

We have 3 adult males and a female so far! I think they may be returns from last year as they seem to know their way around and are not the least bit spooky!!

Gorgeous shot Rose!

I have some that act that way too, Rose. I do believe some of the ones I get return year after year. I only had one straggler lately, and now I think they have all left, though I am leaving the feeder up a few more days.

Norman, OK

Two male Indigos showed up this a.m. One mature and one immature. Don't think it's the same immature male that was here the other day.

Here is a pic of the mature male on the feeder.

Nice pic, red. I left my feeder out for one more day, but I'm sure they are all gone now.

No one else uses that feeder GP? Nice pic red!

No. Strickly reserved for the Buntings when they arrive in October. The rest of my summer birds can't fit into it. Since I have to take it down every night due the rats, it doesn't make sense to keep it up for the one stray, tiny bird that may use it a couple times a week. I'll clean them both and store them till fall.

Norman, OK

No buntings today, just more rain.

I have about 6 shots of that Indigo on that feeder. In each shot, he has a seed in his mouth and it's white millet every shot. Obviously it's this guy's favorite. Another shot
