GP,
How do you get anything done with those beautiful birds at your feeders? I would be standing in the window all day just watching them! What gorgeous colors!
Buntings
Actually, the only way I can see these birds is through my screen porch or sitting outside, which is what I usually do.
The Bunting shots are gorgeous GP and hope they show this year!
Oh it won't be long now......
Wonderful little Buntings GP.
Thanks everyone. I don't expect mine will be around much longer.
Yep, Indigo Bunting
Resin
I'd love to have some buntings. Saw one immature Indigo on my feeder last year. I have a neighbor who says he sees them in the woods behind his house.
I've had Painted Buntings visit for the past four years in the spring, but they never stay for the summer. Usually about this time of year. I keep the camera ready.
If you provide the special Bunting seed mixes and a caged feeder (open bottom, so seed will not collect and entice squirrels), they may hang around a while. Larger birds tend to scare them away from regular feeders.
They come to my yard to feed on occassion too. We have lots and lots of Indigos here where I live at! It seems they come more early in the season tho. I have bought a caged feeder like GP suggested.
GP, where do you get special Bunting mixes at? Any particular brand?
Here is a photo of a pair in the yard last spring.
Thanks to GP I had already started feeding finch food by the time they arrived and we had them all summer. I also had a caged feeder that they used all the time. I got the finch food at Wal-Mart and they seemed to prefer it to the other brands I purchased elsewhere. This year I seem to have tons of Cowbirds, Red-winged Blackbirds and Grackles and I am hoping they don't scare them away. It seems like the pesty birds had mostly left by this time last year.
That is a cute photo Nanny...I will have to check out my External Hard Drive for a pic when I return from my trip today.
I am buying a finch seed mix right now since that is what you mentioned be for Rose. Is it the Morningsong brand you feed. That is what I am getting. The Chipping Sparrows really like it!
I have used the Morningsong brand also Nanny and they cleaned it up!
I get my finch food at Wal-Mart and sometimes Petsmart. It usually specifies what kind of finches and Buntings it will attract.
Are they mainly millet?
Millet is one of their favorites, yes, the main seed is millet.
Wow very pretty!
Fabulous birds, GP. I see you're still keeping them to yourself. LOL
Their MINE...ALL MINE..... Actually I have seen a steady stream of visitors who I believe are resting here as they head northward. Thanks, Pelletory.
GP I love your birds so much I am using one of your photos as my current desktop background!
Thanks...I wonder which one?
The one I have on there now is #6 down - you posted it at 8:06
Great pics!
I have several pair of Indigos now and enjoy seeing their brilliant blueness each morning! The gals have now joined the guys. I have a pic at home I'll try to post later
Beautiful shots Gardenpom...I hope you gave that last one my address!
CBL...Lucky you...mine are two days late from last year. :0(
While I was sitting outback yesterday I kept seeing several Buntings at a time leaving my yard and flying North, and at the time I was wondering if they were leaving for good. This morning the feeder bird seed was barely touched, which means yesterday must have been my last day for my friends to be here. I'll know for sure tomorrow if there is no activity.
Well, GP, it's high time you started sharing them anyway. Did any head west?
Not any that I saw, Margaret :(
I'm hoping they will cross the border to Canada.

The next to the last picture (the solid blue one) is just beautiful..it looks like a cover picture for a magazine or a calendar ....Great picture....
Thank you, pinkpanther2. The Buntings hung around longer this year than last, and I will sure miss them. Have to wait for October for them to pay me a return visit.
