I've been saving this first one so it would be the lead off shot for this volume.

I guess you might call it "Blue Moon."

Another one, also a bit off beat. Showing you a little of the blue bird's tongue.

Too funny! Saw a Bluebird today on the way home, and thought of your beautiful pics!

I don't often post pictures of house sparrows, but I couldn't resist this one's little pink tongue.

Same bird

My adult birds finally ran off the juveniles earlier this week. This is one of the juvenile males, taken on Monday, just before he departed.

I have a few birds with deformities, I posted a Mourning Dove with a deformed bill on the previous thread. I also have a Common Redpoll with no tail. And tonight had a raccoon with no tail. Life is tough for those critters. Here's the Redpoll.

Now here a Black-capped Chickadee the camera deformed, no eyes. :))

I love this thread, and your pictures are so much better than mine will ever be, but I had to show you my two little visitors this morning. This is year 5 or 6 for them, and if they continue to do what they have done, it will be the 18th hatching.

This Mockingbird has been singing night and day.

Only a few Indigo and Painted Buntings are still here.

Last pic is a new bird for me (ID by Resin), Northern Parula (Parula Warbler).

Nice variety GP. Love that cardinal against the blue sky.


Hi Sharran. Nice shot of your bluebirds. I notice you have a slotted opening box. I changed to that style this year and the BB's seemed to like it, so I installed a nest cam in it.

Then yesterday I put up a Gilbertson's just outside the kitchen window, hoping to attract chickadees or maybe titmice, but Papa Blue is simply crazy about it. He flew in and out and back in, over and over for several hours, literally. Mama is not so sure. She continues to perch on the slotted box. Wonder who will win this standoff.

Here's Papa perched on the roof. It was getting dark when I took this so I had to lighten it considerably and it lacks detail.

Oh, I guess I should show Mama and her preference.

Dave, Lovely pics! Where did you get the slotted box from? My husband made one for me last year.

Pelle, I ordered a slotted box from Foster and Smith and the birds loved it, but I didn't like it because the pitch of the roof was rather flat and didn't allow clearance for the bird to enter without hitting the nest cam, so I removed the front panel from a regular style box I had made, and replaced it with a panel without a round hole and dropped it down to where I had a 2 1/2 inch slot across the top. I have the panel with the round hole and can switch back to that style in a matter of minutes if need be. Until yesterday the blues were in love with it. Now they're not so sure. They were back at the Gilbertson's before daylight this morning.

Yes she gave it to me, Marna and won't let me forget it. Actually I mounted it too close to the window. If I turn it so the opening is away from the prevailing weather, it will be facing the window above the sink where we are a lot and the bird house is only about 5 feet outside the window. I actually have to step back to shoot pictures. Right now I'm trying to decide if I want to move the nest cam to the Gilbertson's. I would have to cut a hole in the roof and mount the camera on the roof, aimed through the hole, then get a pvc cap to cover the camera. I don't have much time. I think they will start nest building any day now.

In the meantime, here is a titmouse that perched out back a few minutes ago and stayed there singing while I managed more than 400 decent shots. Could it be our fledgling from last year?

Good morning Fellow Birder Friends! Dave, those are beautiful photos of your Bluebirds. Please send any without a home up I-95 N. I will be laughing about that "blue moon" all day. Hi, Sharran. I'm (originally) a Kentucky girl. Here are a couple of pics of our little Thrush. He wanted to chirp "Good Morning" to all of you. I need to fly out of here, and get something less important than birding (AKA chores) done. Have a blessed day everyone.
