I love carnations. I guess I like the smell of funeral homes or something? Really it goes back to my great-grandma who I was very fond of...wore carnation perfume. When I smell it I can see her in front of her dresser with her blue hair putting on her pearls. She was a lady...and she adored Charles Bronson and me!
Anyway. I keep seeing the seed... and that makes me think I could grow them myself. (I am such an optimist.)
Anyone have any pointers for the Pacific Northwest who grows everything but pine trees in the house?

Carnations?
I've grown them outside. They were alright. Not as nice as the ones you get at the florists. They kind of died out after a couple of seasons. That was years ago, haven't really thought about trying them again.Edge
Sorry I live in the south but I had to let you know that I saw carnation plants at Lowe's today.
Give it a try it is only seed. Go for it!

Please let me know how you come out. Smokey
Just so you know, florist carnations are mainly grown under glass and are dis-budded like crazy to get them to produce large flowers and very long stems. Unless you grow them following a similar method, you'll be more apt. to get smaller flowers on shorter stems, but a greater number of flowers none the less.
Israel grows a phenomenal amount of carnations for the cut flower trade. Who knew ?
Small is ok.. I;m going for smell!!!
