What would you choose for your own memorial plant???

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

That's how I plan to get to that point...

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

A live one. Patti

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

what is a horehound?

New Hampshire, NH(Zone 5b)

Interesting thread! I informed DH a while ago that I expect him to take over the care of my gardens if I go before him. That's all the memorial garden I need! Of course, with hundreds of plants, it is no small task so he balks at the idea every time I remind him. But I think he'd do it.

North Augusta, ON

That is one of my biggest worries...what will happen to my gardens when I'm gone? Although, I'll be gone and might not even notice, but ya never know...

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

nothing you can do about it... well maybe you can haunt them

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

lol.... that would be fun!!! :-p

North Augusta, ON

It would be fun!! Something to look forward to!!

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

definitely!!

I was just at a cemetary the other day and someone has planted a chamaecyparis 'Rimpelaar' as a memorial plant. I was trying to figure out the meaning behind that choice. It was cute though.

I guess I'd go with David phlox.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Here's a good companion, Dave.

I'll rock him!

Agway has a chocolate morning glory. White and brown with a white throat.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Great choice Dave 47. Phlox 'David' is one of my fav perennials.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Thanks D'nut. It is a real classic.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

Thanks for all of those Pixie!!! I'm gaining weight just reading about them!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

to add to Pixie's list... I am trying

pepper Miniature Chocolate Bell and foxglove Milk Chocolate

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

There's also Calla Lilly Hot Chocolate. However, I still think that chocolate cosmos is tops for given the color AND the scent!!!!

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

I love the 'David' phlox. We are hoping that ours blooms this year. It's beginning its second season, that is, if the ice storm didn't kill it.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Had it sprouted before the storm Candyce? oooo hot chocolate calla lily. It has specklely leaves too which are my fav.

Medway, MA(Zone 5b)

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this thread! I'm not knocking our usual threads, but it's fun to have something (quite) different at times.

What would I like . . . well, primroses, of course! And some red perennials - don't care which ones. With a fairy statue beside the headstone!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Another luvly choice PrimroseSue. Primula are so cheerful in the spring.

Thomaston, CT

Those of you who grow David phlox----is it shorter than most other phloxes? Don't know if the one I call David is truly it, or the nursery done me wrong.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

I'd have to say white trillium.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

More perennials than I would have expected.

North Augusta, ON

Perennials are more permanent! Annuals are only there for a year, then we'd be forgotten...

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

No, no - I was expecting more trees and shrubs.

North Augusta, ON

ohhhh...LOL

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

I don't remember David being shorter than other phlox.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

His mom smoked during pregnancy.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

rotflol

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

My David is 4-6 ft tall...at least.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Mine are usually about 4-5 ft.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Last year it was taller than my eye balls....so im guessing. lol

Thomaston, CT

OK---I was sent the wrong phlox---my 'David' is only about 21/2 ft--couldn't understand why everyone raved about it--I couldn't even find it in the perennial bed. I think a lot of cemeteries have restrictions about plantings, so maybe that's why not a lot of trees or shrubs were mentioned.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

I'll have to see how tall our 'David' gets this year. Last year, it was rather short.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

But I never said anything about cemeteries! Memorial plants can be anywhere and quite a few of us want to be cremated anyway.
