I always said I would like to be scattered along the Appy Trail----but kids don't usually follow directions--so I made more traditional plans for his traditional soul!
What would you choose for your own memorial plant???
You know, the thought had never occurred to me, and now that you asked it, Victor, no answer is coming to mind. I guess they'll do with me whatever they want when I'm dead and gone.
Thinking of namesakes.....
Meredith.... there is a little known iris called "Miss Meredith!"
I think that I've come to an answer. I would have to say chocolate cosmos!!! (cosmos atrosanguineus) I love the plant. It looks like velvety chocolate, it smells like rich chocolate, it's perennial, the deer leave it alone, it's the essence of chocolate in a flower if you ask me.
This isn't my picture. I don't have one yet of my plants. I got this off the web.
Good one, Shelly!
thanks! do you think anyone can tell that I'm a chocolate fiend? :-p
Death by chocolate, followed by chocolate?
lol...hmmm....yep both! believe it or not.... chocolate's a stronger addiction for me than plants!! However, I fully acknowledge the problem. It's a start!!!
That's great Victor. It fits my scenario perfectly!!!

doesn't that make perfect reasoning to others? :-p
Sure does!
good! I was beginning to think that I was the only addict here :-p
In fact i'm drinking a mexican hot chocolate at this very moment!
On no....im an a certifiable chocoholic! M & M's are my favorite....I can eat a 3 lb. bag in a day if I let myself.
Love chocolate mousse!
3 lb :-o that's fantastic!!!
Not for the waist line! lol
It's too easy...they can be scooped up by the hand full and munched on all day. The next thing I knew the bag was empty and my husband was looking at me like I had two heads!!
Next time he does that.... just tell him that it's one of the few foods that contain the necessary mineral chromium, and that you're getting recommended daily dose of it!!
Thanks redchic! That's cool, I am going to have to find that little iris. It is funny Victor started this thread because I have been searching for plants with names the same as family members this year. What a ka winky dink! : ) I did find an Iris named Cheyenne Sky which is coincidentally my younger dd's first and middle name! : )
Death by chocolate would have to be on the top rated ways to go! lol
lol.... yep, there needs to be a plant called that.... "death by chocolate"!!!
Victor has some great ideas for thread topics. That's pretty neat about Cheyenne Sky. It's a very unusual combination of first and middle names, so to have that same combination is really cool!
Thanks, Shelly! That is a funny coincidence, Meredith. I like Cheyenne as a name.
Thank you I fell in love with the name cheyenne and I was pregnant with her while my mother in law was dieing from breast cancer. With both of my pregnancies she mentiuoned how much she loved the name sky, so I decided to use it as a middle name in honor ofmy Mother in law. The first name Cheyenne is, in my mind an honor to her as well, with her being part native american. Her mother was half Cheyenne Indian and half Black foot. : ) She agreed it was a pretty name too. : ) She just loved Sky. I just had a hard time naming her that as a first name because I would feel like I was doing the 60's thing. ;)
The only problem with getting the Iris 'Cheyenne SKy' is that it is $45!! Ugh that is a lot for one plant! I am not a collector or anything so I would otherwise never buy one that was that much. But I am goiing to have to! : )

I've been having a hard time also deciding, but I think it would be lily of the valley. However, Shelly's chocolate cosmos is looking good, but then there are daisies. You see what I mean?
Chocolate is an important food group. You must eat 7-9 servings every day or you will get very, very sick and probably die.
Don't need a memorial. Off to that great compost heap in the sky.
Like the idea of cremation to speed the process up.
Gardens die with their gardeners which makes enjoying gardens for the living.
There is a DL called "Milk Chocolate"---doesn't Patti have a chocolate garden? I'd rather eat it than plant it---would love that Mexican hot chocolate about now!
I have that DL. Very nice.
Good one Victor!!!!
well, roses of course... an entire garden... since I am big and extravagant! but I wish I could just be burried in plain dirt and plant the roses on top... nice fertilize I hope! well, the roses would be fat if I have any saying...
Man, you guys are making me crazy. I gotta go get me some CHOCOLATE!!
I am being cremated, my ashes mixed with all my dearly departed animals' ashes...maybe we'll just be mixed into the compost heap....
GOOD idea Harper! too bad there is no rose that smells like chocolate!
but that I can't grow!!!!! lol! nevertheless I would eat it...
lol...me too Kassia!!
I'd prefer to be cremated as well. But, I still want the chocolate cosmos, or chocolate rose if there is one by then, and they can uses the ashes as fertilizer for the plant!!
Maybe Burning Bush then?
lol....
only if theres one by then that has chocolate colored and scented flowers. Wouldn't that be interesting!
well, the thing is I hope there is chocolate in heaven... because there would be no problems with calories!
I have one rose bed that has Caramella, Hot Cocoa, Ice tea ... now if I can find other plants that has chocolate names would be a nice addition!!!!
I agree completely Kassia. There are several others that have chocolate names. I would love to have all of them!
Funny no one is choosing horehound.......
