Little did I know when I bought my house there was buried treasure there. I discovered it last fall when I was inspecting an area of my lawn that just wouldn't grow healthy lush grass, There was a paving stone underneath the sod! I talked to my neighbor and she vaguely remembered the previous owners had put them down to park their boat & trailer on. I figure there to be at least 24 stones.
So this afternoon I've been digging them up. The nice thing about it is that when I get my fork under them and lift, a whole square of sod comes with it. so I've been adding top soil in the holes and putting the sod back on top. You can't even tell there was digging.
Anyone else find buried treasure in their yard?

Buried Treasure!
Yes.I found a whole area of mulch 75 feet long and 10 feet wide with 20 year old spruces growing down the middle.
There was contractors plastic just under the surface and like you it rolled over when I pulled up the plastic.
I kept pulling and cutting these 4x8 sheets until I had the entire area cleared. I put deeper mulch down and now I can garden the whole length of the area, lots of hosta and shade-part shade loving plants, even lilies.
One of the trees had to be cut down(it was definatly dead) now I have a swath of full sun.
The variety of plants in the whole area is fantastic.
It will be another year brfor I have it filled in.
This is how it looked last May
Wow! That was a great find!

This is a great thread, thanks for listing it.
wow cool treasures.
"Treasures" are really general here.
We found the cellar to an old barn when we started digging in one area. Nothing as cool as what you guys found, and we sure can't dig it up, but it was different. We did plant along one of the walls, some daffs and other bulbs, and they come up a little earlier from the warmth of the walls.
A couple of hellebores would look nice in there, Jo Ann.
How old was the old barn?
The house that was on the property burned around 1907. No one had lived here since then, and the road that used to go through our property was closed about 10 years after the house burned, as no one lived on the road except the people who owned the house. As there was no debris from the barn, and as the basement had been filled in with dirt, we assume sometime before the house burned.
I would emagine a barn wall would make a beautiful background for a garden, unless its not in a good situation.
Were there any artifacts around the barn foundation?
I always wonder what circumstances forced people to move from and abandon a property.
Yes polly, I could use some hellebores there. I'm going to move the Nigers and if you want to send some companions ,that would be great.

I was thinking the same thing as ge, artifacts. Being filled in with dirt though would make it kind of difficult to get to the bottom.

We've never even tried to get the dirt out. No barn wall sticking up Jo Ann, we only found it when we went to plant some blueberries. We then dug down about six inches and exposed about three inches of the wall. And then planted daffs along it.
I am such a romantic. I envisioned a deeper wall with stone and the shape of an angel so there would be a lovely backdrop.
No such luck.
