NO BODY SEEMS TO KNOW WHAT PLANTS I SHOULD USE IN MY BALCONY
I DONT SEEM TO GET THE INFORMATION I NEED
where did you post?
I don't recall seeing a balcony related post.
Did you post a photo and
and include a description about the amount of light the balcony gets etc? Did you mention what sort of plants you were drawn to ...color, height... habit..?
I did see that you posted in the container gardening forum, but you only made the post a couple of hours ago, and since the majority of people on this site are based in the US I'd guess just not a lot of people are awake and on DG yet. If a day or two go by and nobody's responded then I'd worry but a couple of hours especially so early on a Sunday morning are not something to be concerned about.
Of course we know, lol! And welcome to Dave's!
missingrosie is right in that we need more info..If you tell us which zone you are in, you'd probably get better answers on what would do well in your climate. I would also post my question on the container gardening thread and look around on those posts, too. KatG from Florida is amazing for putting together wonderful containers and posting pictures of them. She usually also lists exactly what is in her containers and is very helpful with questions. Lots of other great posters there. There is a forum for annuals that might be helpful as well.
You might also want some good opinions about your planting medium while you're over there:-)
Bev
ecrane, we posted at the same time:-) And..we 'lost' an hour, lol!
Im not sure which at this moment but either mittsy or mjsponies has a balcony full of beautiful plants.
I am so sorry ecran3,tggfisk and arejay I got so caught up in my obsession of wanting a beautiful balcony garden, I
completely forgot about the time difference,I did not mean to seem cheeky! and to missingrosie I dont know how to
send pictures, using the computer is new to me,excuse me, thanks anyway for the information. by the way folks have
a good laugh it took me 1 hour to do this.
Nobody thought you were cheeky!! Welcome to DG - we just responded to the fact that you seemed to think nobody wanted to answer you. It does help to give info about the climate and conditions and your likes and dislikes. Helps everyone narrow down and consider their responses to help you.
Babskie,
Not to worry we have all been where you are. Starting our gardens. The computer you will get the hang of eventually it will come and Jim the person I have contacting you is a computer wiz and in your country he will be a great resource for you. So hang in there we will get you up and running. You will have pictures of all of your beautiful plants in the plant files before you know it.
Robin
No problem, babskie:-) We have plenty of obsessions of our own!! Did you check the other forums out? And please feel free to ask any questions you have about where to find things..Robin is right that we have all been dependent on the kindness of other DGers to help us out with things.
Yes, it is paramount to know the amount of sun---direct, afternoon, harsh, full shade, etc? Perhaps you have all of the above. Is there a cover on your balcony? It's really not that different than if you were on the ground; same conditions would apply for container plants, unless the balcony gives you lots of wind. Talk to the person from whom you will buy the plants. Often they are very helpful. I would try to go for a few "anchors." Some vertical growing conifers that will always be with you and make a nice background right thru the Christmas holidays. Ivy is quite sturdy and can be grown on a form such as an inverted tomato cage into a pyramid shape. After that, just pick out the choice annuals (pretty summer flowers) that appeal to you when you go to the market. If you have lots of sun, go with a tomato or two. They can be hung in baskets if you go for cherry tomatoes. Don't forget to have some fertilizer mixed with water at the ready so you don't forget to nourish them during the warm growing seaason. It really helps your flowers.
