Gnomes, Fairies and other garden friends
Oh, Ginger, feel better soon!!!
Ginger, how awful to feel bad on the first good day we have had in what seems like forever. Hope you are better soon!
Oh, how awful Ginger, I hate colds this time of year. Hate colds anyway, but especially when the weather gets good.
Ginger, A lot of that sick junk going on right now. Was there myself last week, so you have all my sympathy!
Get well quick!
Ginger hope you get better soon....DH isn't feeling that great either, sounds like the same thing...just hope I don't get it....
New here but wanted to share my gnome. He is a snail jockey, missing his little watering can and unfort. he was speeding and the snail lost an eye stalk (or is that an antenna??). He hasn't told me his name yet. Behind him to the left are snapdragons getting ready to bloom, geraniums in the back and some phlox on the back right. It's still very early here and most people haven't planted yet.
Welcome!! What an adorable little guy, sad about his mishaps. But gnomes persevere!!
Wow he looks great, what a good idea. I am not sure if I bought him damaged or if little hands helped to damage him. But I am ok with it.
Here is my only other gnome, he guards my mint. I have pineapple mint, spearmint, and a few other kinds of mint. I love mint! And I planted in this front flower bed, if they take it over I would be ok with that. Those are chives behind him btw, almost ready to bloom. I chopped some up for my salad the other day. : ) (alas it was the only part from my garden but not for long.)
Where is the Okie from?
And where is Eagle River??
I LOVE THE CHICKEN!!!
I live in Eagle River, Alaska which is just north of Anchorage. I am from Bixby, Oklahoma though. : )
Love your pond! I am jealous. : ) One lady up the street has a pond but she told me she has to empty it and fill it in every year so the moose don't step in it and break it in the winter or something. Luckily moose haven't got to my garden (yet anyway).
THanks Beadmom, it came from Fred Meyers. They are all on clearance right now. It's as close to chickens as I am going to get this year. Next year I hope to get the real thing. : )
I have a brother who lives in Indian AK. Do you know where that is?
I was born in Madill, lived in Caney and Durant before we moved to New Stuyahok AK. (up river from Dillingham) then to Washington State. My brother lives in Juneau. Uummm Moose, good eating.
No, that's one I don't know, Indian. But I did live in Juneau for 7 years and we moved here 2 1/2 years ago. I don't know where New Stuyahok is either. I also have lived in Seward for two years btw.
Well. then I am going to Freddies TOMORROW!
Ginger
I think Dillingham is on Bristol Bay and we were about 90 miles upriver between Anchorage and Fairbanks on the Nushigak River.
Okie and Trisha, your gnomes are adoreable. Don't usually find them that cute.
Okie, I lived in Eagle River for about 6 months way back when. (About 1977) I'm sure it has changed a lot since then, but would be interested to know where you are. I didn't have much of a chance to establish any gardens in the house, it was brand new, and I headed for the Seattle area before the real winter set in. Just didn't like having the sun rise over the mountain nearby at about 10 in the morning!
Yes, waiting for the sun to come over the mountain is no fun. Where I am it hits me pretty early though, I am not to low and on the side of the valley that gets sun first. I am over by Ravenwood elementary up the hill from them. I think I have a great spot (comparitively speaking) to a lot of the other houses around. Not ideal but I am happy.
Welcome, Okie. I'm a transplant (almost 30 years ago) from Fairbanks, where I was born and raised . . .
Welcome Okie! Your slug jockey is wonderful, and minor imperfections give them personality! Many of my fairies have had tussles with nature (or each other when I'm not looking?) and have come up with similar ailments!
Trisha, I wish I had your skill with the clay...I would have a fairy surgery line!
I have been watching the forums, but not posting much this weekend as the yard has been kicking my butt. The good thing is that I have a free "play day" today, so can diddle around with transplants rather than the heavy stuff.
Thought I would share my favorite garden fairy, who is always with me, but has only finally shown her face in the last couple of weeks...the rest of the time she has been hiding under furry socks! My birthday present to myself when I turned 40.......
Julie she is beautiful!!!
Very nice tattoo! : ) I have often thought about getting one but have never been able to decide what it would be of.
What cute little gnomes!! I also love that chicken!!!
Trisha, nice job with the repairs.
Willow, your pond is lovely.
HUmm.. I went to Freddie's today to get me a chicken. They didn't have any. It only cost me $100 to find that out.
My house smells great with that new jasmine plant.
Ginger
Oh dear, hope you got some treasures.
Oh dear, I just realized I got it at Walmart, not Freddies! Sorry about that, but enjoy the new jasmine plant. : )
Ginger, please refer to the thread "My motto this weekend"
Luckily, I do not venture away from home on holiday weekends, so the temptation is not there!
It was therapy shopping.
My boss fired me over something that was my job (which happens on a fairly regular basis) but this time I was really mad so when he asked me to come back I said "Take a ------- hike buddy!" (Yes, we routinly sling the f word at each other.) went to lunch, got a pedicure and bought some plants.
I'm the troubleshooter and occasionally I have to shoot at him...
I turned off my blackberry and let him sweat that one for 2 days. (I'm on salary)
Ginger
Ah, yes! Therapy shopping. Julie (Rarejem) and I have used that for every purchase this year, as we lost my husband (her dad) just a year ago now. We will testify that it IS good therapy.
You and your boss must have an ongoing thing, Ginger. Sounds like you have the process well under control, however.
"ongoing thing"
ewwwwww ickkkkkkkkkk
ackkkkkkk

Sharon -
If I haven't said so before, I'm very sorry for your loss. I can't imagine how hard that must have been and must be. Murmur, who used to hang out on this thread and lives on Whidbey Island, lost her husband last year after a brief illness, as well.
Gardening is the best therapy, I think.
Kathy
Thanks, Kathy.....Yes I have found digging in the dirt the best of all therapies for every frustration in your life.
Kathy...I've often thought of Murmur, wondering how she is doing. Have you heard?
Sharon and Julie, I would also like to express my sympathy about the loss of your husband and father. It is so hard to lose people to whom you are deeply connected.
Hi Sally -
Yes - I hear from her from time to time via regular e-mail and actually just got a quick note tonight.
I think she's doing well - adjusting to the loss of her husband and both parents in less than a year. I'm sure that, as much as she's coping, different emotions can blindside her on any given day.
She does have her daughters and brother and SIL with whom she is close. And she has her new pup to keep her busy, too.
I get the sense that she'll be back on - just not sure when.
