I thought it might be fun to share pictures of our gnomes, Fairies and other garden friends to help us get through this long winter. Here is a picture of Ludwig (L) and Morris (R). They are my oldest gnomes, they came from Germany with my Opa in the 1960's on one of his trips to visit friends.
In the front right corner of the photo you catch a glimpse of Hibert, his hat is a tad big and has a tendancy to fall down so he is constantly pushing it out of his eyes.

Gnomes, Fairies and other garden friends
Lorenzo and Jessica. Jessica is busy smashing grapes for the fall harvest (she has a tendency to also taste test previous years vints to assure that they are still consumable.) Jessica is overly expressive and loves to sing, although many times off key, but alas it is always in Italian. Lorenzo is an observer and he is simply smitten by Jessica's hunger for life in general. He is always there to lend a helping hand whenever she needs one.
What a fun thread idea! I'll play, especially since most of my kids are spending the winter in the garden shed :( and I haven't gotten to admire them lately. I am a fairy collector, and would bore everyone to tears if I were to share all of my kids, but you can get quite an idea with my official "Fairy Glenn" pictures.
Julie
This is the left side of the Fairy Glenn.
Very fun, guys!!
Rach, I'm thinkin' we might have to make a late-night trip to James' garden if you can't find your own bunnyjocky . . .
I think I have a gnome someplace - but he doesn't really have a gname yet.
Beware....He's booby-trapped!!!!
Why? Is he next to the t---- pink rhody? Hahahahahahahahahahaha.
Sorry, sometimes I just crack myself up. ^_^
Oh man you guys, I love all your wee people. My DIL has a huge collection of faeries and gnomes, maybe I should ask if they an come live in my fairy glen, I have a perfect spot.
Julie, what beautiful, realistic fairies! I would love to find some like the ladies in your first post (#6230168) where would I find them? Your reflecting pool fairie is also a beauty.
James I am in love with your bunny jockey. Could you have a look on the bottom of him and see if he has any kind of marking that would help me find him online? I would so very much appreciate it :0) So is he next to the t*tt* pink rhody? (Kathy you crack me up too :0)
Willow he may be the first of many, they can be very addicting and they can hide very well in the garden.
Well it looks like I have to get a gnome. They must bring some magic to the garden.
I too love the Bunny Jockey! Don't have a gnome in the garden to date, but would definitely add him! I have always loved gnomes and elves, but fairy's are an addiction as bad as gardening is!
My best Fairy Glenn girls are about 6 years old. They came from a mail order company that is really a BAD BAD place for anyone who is into whimsey of any sort.
I found them at http://www.designtoscano.com/home.do . The inventory is always changing, and I have some real beauties from them. I don't want to think about how much I (and those who love me) have contributed to their profit margins over the past several years. If I have time this weekend, I will add a picture of my latest addition from their catalogue... Rhiannon the Archer. She is far and above my favorite of my outdoor collection, but very new so no good pics as of yet.
Julie
Uh oh . . . .
Julie I just saw Rhiannon on their website, she is lovely, I can see why she is your favorite!
Uh-OH is right. I do get that catalog once in a while. Love that stuff. Might have to treat myself.
Just looked at that website. How dare they tempt us so! I need my first gnome but he must be inexpensive. A 'recession' gnome!
Sally, Your collection is super.

Ask on Freecycle or check on Craigslist - I'll bet there are a bunch of recession gnomes out there now.
Sally, I love your collection! I have the small one in the center with the acorn hat and the boquet, but the rest are new to me and beautiful!
Rachierabbit-- I love Rhiannon...although when I went out to take her pic this am, I was disapointed to find that her finish is already flaking off in a couple of areas. Not usually a complainer, but she was a present to myself a few months ago (and not a cheap one), and I really expected her to hold up better than that. Still love her, but will definitely be clear coating her before she gets any worse!
I am new to this forum (referred by Lynn Weidman), and have to say that everyone has been overly friendly regarding any of my posting attempts. I feel like I kind of know a little about some of you as my Mom (Sharon) and Lynn went to Dragonfly Nursery with some of you a few weeks ago or so. My Mom said that all of the people she met were super nice and very knowledgeable, so I was very interested in checking out the forum. Very glad I did!
I figured I would try to make something of a contribution as a newbie, and do some research on the BunnyJockey. (OK, so it was somewhat selfish as well as that would be the Gnonme to add to my garden). The guys at work say I can find anything on line, so here's what I came up with:
http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://nerdapproved.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/garden_gnome_riding_bunny.jpg&imgrefurl=http://nerdapproved.com/misc-weirdness/garden-gnomes-get-bunnyback-rides/&usg=__GMvI0_kuv8w1c0D5hlSnikdRyGA=&h=432&w=371&sz=51&hl=en&start=36&tbnid=fRPrdRfAzSZNgM:&tbnh=126&tbnw=108&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dgnome%26gbv%3D2%26ndsp%3D18%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26start%3D18
And here is Rhiannon...my favorite fairy despite her recently discovered flaws!
Julie
Okay, rarejem. Your mom and Lynn said you were a regular, but I didn't remember having met you. We really are a friendly bunch.
So your mom said you and she lived very close to one another and close to Lynn, as well. Will you be around for the roundup in August? It should be fun - conversation, maybe some garden tours, nursery tours, and a little swapping, I'm guessing.
Okay, I'm officially in awe. I can generally do pretty well finding stuff online myself. I took a stab and this one and didn't come close. But you found him. That's awesome!
I left Rach and her Dad about an hour and half ago in Woodinville. They were going to stop at Flowerworld for a bit before heading back home, so I don't think she'll be online until later, but she is going to be so thrilled!!
Katie-- I have been a regular on the Daylily forum on the Garden Web, and have been a member (non-subscribing) of Dave's garden forever, but have just recently gotten into the forums here. Started in the DL forum here too, as that is my current addiction, but Lynn got me into checking out the other things that DG has to offer. We live about a mile and a half apart... met through DG last fall.
As Mom and I have really "clicked" with Lynn (easy to do with the garden in common!), she told us about the PNW roundup. Sounds like a great time, and we have volunteered to help her ahead of time wherever we can. We also have volunteered to do a breakfast and garden tour in our world one day for anyone who is interested. We have 15 acres between the two of us (Mom and I) and about 5 are landscaped. We have a few hundred roses, a few hundred daylilies, hostas (mostly Mom's), iris (not much to look at in August) and tons of misc other things that have caught our eyes over the years.
It's not often that you get the cance to share your world with someone who will really appreciate it...no matter if there are a few weeds here and there!
Oh, and we'll all really appreciate what is done because know how hard it is to keep up!! I'm thrilled at the prospect of the tour. Just know that you'll get a lot of: "What rose is that?" and "How much sun does it need?" and "What daylily is that?" and "Where'd you get it?" so you'll want to be prepared or just let us know beforehand not to ask. LOL
Your mom said you were a regular, but I don't go to the daylily forum much (don't have that much sun). I am trying out some in my part-shade, though, and they are holding up just fine, so I may start that addiction up at some point. You never know.
Katie,
LOL... We constantly joke about having trouble retaining new information as "our hard drives are full"! All of our roses and daylilies are tagged, but with the exception of the 75 or so new kids that I planted last fall, I can rattle off the name of almost all of them. In my garden alone that makes over 500 common names, so if I forget what I had for breakfast yesterday, that's why. I am not quite as good with the latin names, but can still give you at least enough info about almost everything in my yard to find it on line.
Daylilies are quite an addicting plant as they are pretty much trouble free in our area. I have several in part sun, and they do just fine. We can't get the color out of them as the people in warmer climates do, but they are still wonderful. It is kind of like Christmas walking your garden each day, as you never know who is going to be showing off for you that day. The end of August is the end of the good DL season, but there still should be enough blooming to show off fairly well!
That's good to know. I'll have to bring a pencil and pad and my glasses to make my wish list. :-)
I want to play too but,
I only have these 2 for now in the yard. Still collecting.
This is Rhineholt and Hans out riding the favorite steads ( I pick the names for them from some dear friends I met from
http://www.germany-tourism.de/ENG/destination_germany/master_tlfstrasse-id34.htm
They where here, visiting a friend of mine and we got to meet. was so much fun.
Thanks Willow and Rarejem, I do like my little friends, there are a few more round and about. Most of them came from wally world or Fred Meyer. They just seem to grab me as I walk by.
This one qualifies as an other garden friend. Baby Bear was the first to greet the traveling gnome Lingernot when he came to visit us.
I just ordered my first gnome. Since I am not too into these things I thought I would start slowly so I got a stone one with no colors. He's very cute and looks very lucky. I can hardly wait to meet him!
