Congratulations, you win (NOT!)

Everson, WA(Zone 8a)

I just googled davesgarden.com (since I am not on my own computer) and was greeted with "Congratulations! You won!" before logging in. 8^(

That happened just now?

probably way off base here, as I don't fully understadn the warning, but just thought I would mention it just in case.

Just to report on my experiences, since I am the thread starter, it has not happened to me since I posted the original message.

There are ads on DG?!? I guess I never see or hear them as I've got a firewall, 2 pop up blockers, and I never turn my speakers on!! LOL

I haven't seen it since I posted on March 6.

stephanietx, your profile has ads turned off, so you shouldn't ever see anything.

Thanks all for the report. As for right now, there should be no objectionable ads - no audio or "Congratulations, you win" type ads. If there are any seen from this moment forward, PLEASE let us know.

It is never our intention to allow these to come through, but our third party ad server gets them snuck in occasionally and we do our very best to track them down and get rid of them. Unfortunately, it's a cat and mouse or whack-a-mole type of game.

We have a long term strategy to get rid of "network ads" altogether and go with pure text ads and ads that companies contract directly with us. I'm very much looking forward to that day. Until then, though, we still have lots of salaries and bills to pay and so we're still using the network ads.
