Anyone still have a source for these?
Calhoun Purple Hull Peas
dwmcduffy, You should find a local source. Try calling your county agent. Those purple hulls are still widely planted in W LA AND eTX
I've froze and canned my share when we lived in ETEX.
GOOD LUCK
Vickie
I have already checked with LSU Ag service and all feed and seed stores. If you know of a seed store that has them, list their phone # and I will call and order some. thanks.
There are a lot of different cultivars of purple hull peas. The Pinkeye Purple Hull is very popular. This is the only place I have seen the Calhoun Purple Hull. http://www.uga.edu/ebl/ssl/activities/seedlist/ I am not familiar with it so i don't know how it differs from other purple hulls. I t is not On NC States list. The Calhoun Crowder ( a speckled crowder) was developed by LSU, Calhoun station. The Calhoun Purple Hull may still be popular in that area assuming it has the same developer.
Farmerdill, I e-mailed them a few weeks ago, they said that is one cultivar of purple hull that is on the top of their list to bring back because of the high demand. I have also grown the pinkeye purple hull, it does well but not a good as the calhoun did. thanks.
