i put the plastic on with 1 inch strips of the 1/4 inch plywood. latter when i save some money i'm going to get wiggle wire for it.

take and staple one end and stretch the plastic strait them staple one side then put plastic over the top to the other side. staple one end then stretch as far as you can reach and staple. then in between those staples pull the plastic down as you staple the rest in between. i put staples about every inch. once the two sides are on go to one end and staple it on the on the other end staple and stretch like you just did on the side . if you are going to put two layers it doesn't need to be that tight because the air blowing in between then needs some room and will take out the extra slack. one of my friends leaves hers really loose and when she put the blower on she gets close to a foot air space, she says it help insulate. shes been doing it that away for 17 years. if you have anymore questions or need something explained better just ask i don't mind. hay "JB" if you do build one of these don't get rid of the one on the porch it would be great for over wintering the delicate plants.oh and i don't know if i said but the 2x4s are cut at a 18 degree cut for the trusses

Elizabeth City, NC(Zone 8a)

Wow, whoever said "a picture is worth a thousand words" wasn't kidding. So I see you didn't need to attach the plastic to the 2x4s exept on the ends.

Thanks so much for the info.

The porch is in desparate need of some sun. It's been cloudy here for so long my Toms are starting to get leggy. Next sun here should be Wednesday.

I just planted Toms and Peppers for the late commers. You know the people who don't start their gardens in time.

So far:

Carnation
Snapdraggons
Johnny-Jump-Ups
Petunias
Marigolds
Balsom
Forget-Me-Not
Verbena
Bachelor Button
Zinnia
African Daisy
Delphinium (These may not germinate for me)
Coleus
Celosia
Cockscomb
Pansys (I'll never do these again. Too slow for me)
Impatiens
Vinca
Phlox
Red Hot Poker

Veggies:

Toms
Peppers:Jalapeno,Bell, and Cascabella.
Broccoli
Crooked neck

Due to lack of space I have to stager my planting times. Soon I'll be able to place transplants directly out on the back deck.

Thanks again for sharing and certainly for all those pictures.

Gentry, AR

no problem "JB" always glad to help. nice list! i need to start some more seeds last year my friend was selling tomatoes up into end of july so i am going to keep planting seedlings as long as their buying

St. Louis County, MO(Zone 5a)

Our weather here was so cool last year, many people lost their first plantings, so plants went for a pretty penny in June.

Elizabeth City, NC(Zone 8a)

BTW if you haven't purchased your seeds due so now. Because of the economy seed companies are running out of the most popular seeds,ie. Toms and peppers.

Yeah - I've heard figures of 200% increase in sales of vegetable plants. Can't believe this was the year I decided to start growing - how lucky was that? Kinda wish we'd grown more, now, lol!

Congrats on your Talapia's profligacy...
Jay

Gentry, AR

Sapello, NM(Zone 5b)

Venting? Do the sides lift up or do you just roll up the ends?

Gentry, AR

sorry j wife took the computer over for a min. i'm going to square in 2'x2' at the top of the wall and just put a box fan in with a door that will seal in cold weather later going to make the side without the plywood roll up

don't know if you can see them but the little orange balls with two black dots are the tilapia "fish" babys they will grow to be almost an inch in just two weeks.

Funny thing, I actually saw tilapia for sale in the grocery store the other day. What's its big thing? Is it supposed to closely resemble the taste of a more expensive fish?

Gentry, AR

don't know never had expensive fish i'm just a poor redneck. lol all i know is its the only fish i know that doesn't smell fishy and it has a sweeter meat to me. they have big bones so easy not to chock on one. my boy favorite way to eat them is take the whole fish gutted of course and dip in to a batter then deep fat fry the whole thing. their favorite part is the tail fin it turns crispy, they fight over it if there is only one. they say its the third most sole fish on the market now.

Gentry, AR

hay cathy4 those hanging baskets are just hanging on a top rail of a chain link fence i just put a screw in the wood and wired the up.

Los Gatos, CA

Hi guys, and gals,

I have been reading this thread since it was the other one. It makes the most interesting reading! I have really learned a lot.
I have a Greenhouse. I grow Orchids. I had so many growing in the house that my husband got me a Greenhouse so I could keep a few in there. I am trying to only bring in the ones that are blooming.

Since you guys were all starting veggies, I started veggies. I am having a great time, and enjoying all the chatting, so I thought that I should join in.

So are most of you going to sell your seedlings? I think I went a little overboard and I have a lot!!

Los Gatos, CA

Whitebear, I have been enjoying all your knowledge! Thanks!

Gentry, AR

thanks "imagesoart" and yes i'm going to sell my seedling and plant what i can't sell. don't be a stranger talk to us more we are just one big happy family. just a hay i'm here is fine lets me know people are looking and reading the thread. i will keep making things and sharing my know how as much as i can.

"what is a man if he does nothing with his knowledge"

that includes sharing it with others. "whitebear"

Loving the little fishies!

Gentry, AR

i enlarged the pic and counted about 200 fish fry in 6 months.lol

Palmer, AK(Zone 2a)

Howdy Images! Welcome! I always start too many things, too. I don't sell my left-overs...I usually give them away or trade them.

WhiteBear....just wondering...how big will those fish get?

Gentry, AR

hay "ice-worm" they will get to 1 1/2 to 2 lbs before i eat or sell them. takes about 6 to 9 months.

St. Louis County, MO(Zone 5a)

Images, welcome! I thing going overboard is a common malady of seed starters. I'm going to have tomato plants coming out my ears, but maybe some will sell. Until I started here I hadn't thought of selling them, it would help pay for my obsession, um, I mean hobby.

Nauvoo, AL(Zone 7a)

congrats congrats on the bouncing greenhouse..... and thanks for the chocolate.

thats alot of fish.
and here I thought i had alot of fish. (30 goldfish and koi)

sadly, i do not like talapia. Yuck.
Catfish and BAss for me.
its funny though, my sister hates catfish and loves talapia.

Gentry, AR

hay thanks "cricket" i have catfish and perch in the 6000 gallon tank. so you can have some of those.lol

Gentry, AR

got some water line in today. in between the tilling and the mowing.

Gentry, AR

now don't laugh at the construction of this i put it together in 5 min to think it threw and to show the concept to some people that are coming out tomorrow to see the place. ok that said, the black tanks is for the tilapia. gravity feeds water to the white half barrel that has a floating rack that holds the plants then it empty s into the gray tub where a sub pump pumps the water back to the tilapia tank questions? "whitebear"

St. Louis County, MO(Zone 5a)

Love it.

Gentry, AR

thanks "cathy4" the real setup will look a lot better and will have 6 barrels 2 wide 3 long.

(Sheryl) Gainesboro, TN(Zone 6b)

Are you using the plants to clean the water or the water to feed the plants?

Gentry, AR

yes

Gentry, AR

lol sorry i am using the plants to clean the water and i grow duckweed to feed the fish.
