glad your son made it through surgery and home. BUT, did he have more pain after he got home like most surgeries end up. Poor fella. How is he doing lately? and How are You?

Gentry, AR

he's doing good took him to the doc today and he was impressed on how well he was doing the pain didn't have a chance. i started giving him the pain meds the moment we got home and stuck to the schedule and hasn't had hardly any pain. as for me just tired not much sleep watching him 24/7 i get an hr here and there but next week should be better. thanks for asking. Get the Son to help you, that way you get them replanted and can watch him at the same time!!

Gentry, AR

some brandywine tomatoes should be able to save these.

Chop that romaine off, about an inch long and eat it, it should grow back, see the little leaves at the bottom?

Gentry, AR

sounds good but he can't stand up for very long. helped him out of the bath yesterday and he blacked out i saved him from hitting his head on the tub. so don't think i can hold him with one arm and transplant with the other.lol that would be a sight.

North Augusta, ON

Maybe a bit much then...

(Sheryl) Gainesboro, TN(Zone 6b)

Okay, I got a veggie planting question for you. You can plant tomatoes and cabbage up to their ears, I'm told. Is there any vegetable that you should *not* plant deep?

St. Louis County, MO(Zone 5a)

Good question!

Gentry, AR

ya got me on that one i'll ask my friend this weekend he's been growing things for over 75 years, if he don't know he'll know some one that does.

(Sheryl) Gainesboro, TN(Zone 6b)

Well, that tells me at least that there's a good amount that should be planted deep, right?

Gentry, AR

as far as i know but i would question some thing like lettuce. not sure if it would form a head or stalk if you planted it to deep.

(Sheryl) Gainesboro, TN(Zone 6b)

Right, makes sense. I would guess anything that has an obvious stem might be good for it...

Gentry, AR

i transplant all these deep

tomatoes
peppers
wastermelon
cantalope
cucumbers
and all my flowers

i think anything that you could take cuttings from you could plant deep.

Gentry, AR

well my son is back on his feet and i am getting back to work got some plastic up today wahoooo!

Wow, that is really nice, beautiful construction.

Sapello, NM(Zone 5b)

That is really nice work! It looks like you're using 1x stock for the rafters, yes? What kind of plastic are you using for the cover?

Glad to hear your son is doing well; that must be a huge relief. =0)

Jay

Gentry, AR

thanks guys and they are 2x4s with 1/4 plywood and just use 6 ml plastic till next fall when i'll put on 4 year plastic on is and yes a very huge relief, it's so hard to see your child like that. but he is doing great now. thanks "whitebear"

Nauvoo, AL(Zone 7a)

It looks great. Your on a roll now.

I only know about one type bolivian jew. How many bolivian jews are out there? Cause your bolivian jew doesnt look like the type that i am use to.

Gentry, AR

hay cricket. this bolivian jew is "Callisia repens" only one i know of. but i don't know much, lol it looks a little different after its been inside threw the winter. it developed that purple on it. this will grow in a hanging basket that look like a bee hive. cool plant

Nauvoo, AL(Zone 7a)

Yeh, maybe same as what im use to.
the bolivian jew I normally use has very small leaves and stems and it covers a basket like a beehive persay----- like a big ball . I just take a bunch of long trands of cuttings and lay and lightly press them in the basket of soil . No need to cover wtih soil, just mist often and it magically takes root.

Gentry, AR

i think might be the same these leaves are about 1/4 inch and hardly any stem, this one i had in a basket and a mouse got in it and killed all the roots so i took all the vines and started them in a 144 cell count tray they have done awesome and should be able to make 15 or so basket out of them.

Elizabeth City, NC(Zone 8a)

WB that's real nice work. How did you attach the plastic? I've never been able to get mine that tight. How do you support the 2x4's? I can see the side with the sheet plywood being supported, but what about the other side?

I think I could build one like that and use it for a greenhouse. Building out of wood should make putting in automatic vents easier.

Thanks,

JB

Gentry, AR

hay jb i'll go out and take some closer pics for you and explain a little better be back in a few.

Gentry, AR

here you go ""JB" if you go here it shows how i built the trusses http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/951503/
then i took 3' strips of 1/4 plywood and tied them together

Gentry, AR
