I bought a small house in August that has a neglected little yard. The lawn is all weeds . I want to put in some beds of groundcovers, flowers , flowering shrubs and a small tree. The front lawn is maybe 24 x 20, so all plantings have to be in that scale.
I am thinking of redtwig dogwoods, heather, birch trees, a Kousa or a weeping cherry or a small Japanese maple. Will these work 20 years from now in my small space.
Any other plant that you love that you would suggest?
Fresh start
What's the exposure? Full sun? Partial shade? The JMs like some shade. The Kousa would be lovely, or a Chionanthus chinensis (Chinese fringe tree). They don't get large and have fragrant flowers in spring.
For shrubs that stay small.I like ilex, holly, boxwood.Red twig dogwood is a nice one.I love mine.
