So i started my seedlings in those jiffy containers, I just sewed the seeds, but I am having a hard time keeping it at 75 degrees which seems to be the general consensus. I don't have them under floresent lights yet. The room temp is around 65 to 70 max will they sprout? Do i water the seeds before they sprout? do they need light before they sprout?
keeping seedlings warm....?
RYAN, I dampen the soil the seeds are in with luke warm water and cover with saran wrap untill true leaves come and set mine on top of my frig till they sprout. Than i set in a sunny window. They need to be warm and not in a draft. The saran wrap will keep them warmer than room temperature.
This is for tomato and pepper seeds.
I have 4 of those 72 peta pot trays by jiffy. They are too big to put on the fridge lol
I have the plastic tops on, no lights, and I have misted with warm water twice a day. this is my first time trying all this and spending the cash for heating mats where not in my budget, its tight times these days.
Here is what it looks like, click for the pictures

Hey! Space heater! I am keeping my baggies on the heater vent--it isn't consistent heat. I am getting a few sprouts, but it's early yet--maybe a space heater would be better.
Room temperature of 65-70 is fine. You have the clear plastic domes on which sounds good. I think misting with water twice a day is going to cause the seeds to rot. I'd just leave em. You shouldn't need to water again until the seedlings sprout and have used up enough of the water to make the surface of the soil look lighter in color.
The peppers will germinate slowly, perhaps 2 weeks, but they'll come up. The tomatoes should come up in 4-6 days.
