Yes, I see it now that you pointed out. Shy little fellas aren't they?
March Hoyas
Yes indeed. I noticed another unopened bud first and thought it was either a bud or a mealy bug!! Then I spotted the open flowers and knew it was really a bud!
Wow, lots of great new bloomers! I just never tire of looking at the pictures posted here! They're such an inspiration....to buy more, unfortunately!
Kelly
Carol - maybe H. leytensis?
Still waiting for blooms here... my praetorii/lasiantha that has been trying to bloom all winter has lost it's last set of buds.
Kelly, I completely blame you for me going on Ebay and "winning" a H. buotii... ha ha!
Christine,
That is a really weird phenomena that I just noticed for the first time yesterday on my H. diversifolia. It is doing the same thing - developing new buds on the same peduncle, before the first buds have even opened yet.
Doug
Christine-
LOVE that bud picture! How cool!
Hills,
I'll take FULL responsibility for your inability to control your hoya habit! Buotii is a MUST in my opinion! Great hoya! BTW the flowers lasted for 6-7 days
Kelly
Your RHP looks like a 'mixed boquet'. Very pretty. I wish mine would send out a peduncle. I got it last year and it's growing like a weed. I check every few days for peduncles, but so far, none. :(
Sunshine - great photo of the discoloration of RHP. Red Buttons can also do that. It has something to do with the volitility of the sugary sap within the flower that causes the lighter/darker areas. Kloppenberg published it as cv. 'Chimera' thinking it was a different cultivar.... CMB brought the sugar volitility to the forefront. Generally happens to the parts of the flower in the most light/heat.
Ima, Carol, thanks!
Carol, thanks for the information.
Jan
Well Kelly, I hope you're satisfied...thanks to you and your pictures of big fuzzy buotii blooms and "it smells like hyacinths" I actually broke down and spent $43 for one 3" pot of it from Asiatica (apparently the only place in North America that carries it)....GRRRR....don't get me wrong--they have beautiful plants and they're lovely people to deal with, it's just the SHIPPING that kills me....I can actually get several plants from Hawaii for slightly LESS than it costs me to have one plant shipped across the state of Pennsylvania...why is that?????
Anyhow, once I get past my snit, I'm actually very excited...I'm not sure when it'll ship, that depends on the weather-- which in Pittsburgh in March (and early April) can be very tricky--but eventually I will have an actual plant of H. buotii and I can't wait :D
Shelley
Shelley, if you only knew how much I have spent on shipping for orchids from CA!!! $43 is a steal for a rooted plant! Be happy!
Hmmmmm. Ted Green sells a cutting of Buoti. Not $43. I think Hawaii needs to raise their prices.....
Oh, Shelley, I think you'll love it! Of the few hoyas I've had bloom so far, buotii and bella are my favorites! Keep in mind, most of mine have yet to bloom though, so my favorites may change as time goes on!
I just paid a bit much for shipping as well on 2 plants....but the one plant was on sale!
Kelly
I paid approximately $20 for buotti and finlaysonii including postage, both small cuttings, and I'm hoping they'll be sent at the end of this week... Pictures to come, I am sure!
At the moment, there's a bella Louis Buis and a polyneura, small cuttings, going for that much each! Very strange...
Carol, did you find out what your NOID was in the end?
Hills...don't know yet...sill working on it.
Today, the first of three H pusilla umbels opened. I have such trouble shooting this flower, and lacunosas. It just occurred to me though, that if I'd used the macro setting it probably would have helped immensely. But I'm too tired to try again tonight, so I'll post the best of what I did tonight, stop babbling and get to bed where I should have been an hour ago. Here she is. Good night.
Christine
Lovely!!! I really like Ms. pusilla!!!
Hills,
Whoa! You got a heck of bargain! Good for you!
Christine,
Your pusilla flowers are dear! Had to laugh at what you said about the macro feature! I can't tell you how long it took me to figure that out and, boy, has it made a world of difference!
Kelly
Sunshine....your H. pachyclada red/white looks like H. subquintuplinervis. Are you sure you have the correct label?
Carol,
It was named pachyclada Red/White when I got this from Asiatica. I'll look up photo of H. subquintuplinervis.
Jan
Christin Burton's H. subquintuplinervis.

Carol, I know I don't have pachtclada red/white like I thought. The flowers look different than mine on their site.

But they sold it to you as H. pachyclada? I will look for some photos and start another thread. Those two are often confused and often mislabeled by sellers...
Paula,
Another FABULOUS photo!
Limonica is one I'm hoping to get in trade soon!
Kelly
Great photo, Paula...my has a fragrance early morning so at night you will prbably have one. Mine are about to do it again!!!!
Sunshine...that is a GREAT photo!!!!!
Carol, Thanks! if you want to use it you are welcome to use it.
Great pictures, Jan and Doug!
