March Hoyas

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

I went to the Smith College Bulb Show today. Lots of spring bulbs, orchids, and ....some hoyas in bloom! Here's a link for anyone interested (sorry so many). http://www.photoworks.com/photo-sharing/shareSignin.jsp?shareCode=A8EC072C7F4&cp=ems_shr_alb_pml&cb=PW

Kelly...you sure have the gift!!!

Shepherdstown, WV

Carol,

I get so excited every time I even see a peduncle develop! When a bud or flower errupts I feel like it's Christmas! Maybe one of these days when flowers are a more common occurence 'round my house I won't get so excited! I've got a long way and good many hoyas to go through before then!

Kelly

BTW- the lobbi you sent this past summer is suddenly growing! It's done nothing since I received it, but for some reason it's still one of my favorites!

Wow Kelly! They're beautiful!!

Spring has certainly sprung - I found lots of tiny buds tonight myself when I was watering, and siariae has buds about to pop open.

Christine! Siariae?!?! Looking forward to those pictures! That's such a cool flower!

Kelly

Thanks Kelly, it just boomed in February for the first time and it took my breath away. New buds popped out 2 weeks after the first flowers fell off. Its gonna be my fave this year, I can already tell.

Oh boy, just love to see these great hoyas in bloom. And such great pics, kelly!

More great blooms Kelly. I especially appreciate your bella. I have no luck with them. I bought four so far, and killed them all. I have one small cutting I saved, and it's growing very dry. It's on a little shelf outside, and it's more or less hidden by others. Maybe thats the trick for me. FORGETABOUTIT!! It's been outside all winter without water. It's looking good. Maybe it's time to try another. I love the 'Luis Bois'.

Pachyclada red & white, smells really nice.

H siariae popped open this morning and called me into its room to take its picture. Funny little things hoyas are, they stay nice and quiet, and as soon as they have a flower they get all mouthy ... lol.

Beautiful picture Christine! I'll have to put H. siariae on my want list.

I hope my Pachyclada looks half as good as yours Sunshinesw if it ever gets big enough to bloom.

Doug

Thanks Doug. It has a very light, not unpleasant, but not pretty scent that defies a more articulate description.

SW, your Pachyclada's really lovely, and look at all those buds! Wow!

Jan, I can't wait for my pachyclada to set buds. Yours sure is pretty.
Ceedub, Siariae is a beauty. I have to add it to "the list"

I wonder, and I bet - that the scent has to do with attracting
pollinators.

Now, what is attracted by horse urine?

Doug, Christin, Ima, thanks!
Christin, H siariae looks so cute. Are the flowers small?
Doug & Ima, I grow my pachyclada like succulant. I keep them drier than the most hoyas, it works for me.

Thanks SW, I think so too... Yes, they're small, each flower is about1/3" in diameter; the entire umbel's about 3" at its widest point.

Terrific photo of siariae, Christine....inspite of her attitude, she is a good hoya!

Thanks Carol. I agree, she is a good hoya, and she likes to be kept nice and warm.

Here s my H. pottsii from Vietnam - it is a DL hoya but I can't find the number. It is like H. pachyclada in that it doesn't like to be wet and it blooms to beat the band!!!! There are peduncles on 12" plant that are 2.5" long from so many blooms!!! really fragrant too.

Anyone know what this might be...I lost the tag...? help

Lovely flowers Carol. I'm particuarly enthralled with your lamingoniae. Such a vibrant colour. Must check David's list and see if he has it. The leaves on your unknown look like a few of mine, but nothing that I've had bloom for me. Be interested to find out what it is.

I think I will send the NOID to David and see if he can help...it is one of his...

Here is cv. Bright One...my second favorite H. pubicalyx cultivar...

And I think this is my favorite cultivar of H. pubicalyx... Royal Hawaiian Purple

OH...and this is a terrific hoya...should be on everyone's list from DL. It is IML 1514 sp. Ban Ngong Ngoy. The blooms seem to last for weeks, the fragrance is very strong but not unpleasant (to me) and the plant puts out lots of peduncles in succession.... The leaves are like H. fungii.

Carol, beautiful flowers!!! I think lamingtonae is a beauty. One of my pubycalix has buds, should be opening today.

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

Ditto on lamingtonae! I'd be so happy to have buds on my pubycalixes!!!!

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Very pretty blooms, Carol. I like the lamingtoniae. The color is georgeous.
