very nice!

Wouldn't a red moat confuse the hummers? Make them think the pool was more nectar?

Beachwood, NJ(Zone 6b)

Great idea f_chisolm! I have red ant moats on all of my hummer feeders, and they are not confused at all. They always go straight to the nectar.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

and dont' some other birds drink from the moat?

Beachwood, NJ(Zone 6b)

Yes, the chicadees love to drink from them! And my catbirds also!

Florence, MS(Zone 8b)

An ant moat made from a tomato sauce can. I will most likely paint this yellow.

you GO frank!

Florence, MS(Zone 8b)

Vienna sausage cans would be a good size. I wonder if they would attract hummers if they had red flowers with yellow centers painted on them. Not counting my time these cost less than a dollar apeice. It only takes about fifteen minutes to make them. What about red and yellow stripes spiraling around them. Sort of like a barber's pole except yellow where the white would be.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

I hate the moat I bought at WBU. The stupid eye bolt is not big enough to fit on the shepherd hook!! I have to use a twisty tie to attach it to the hook...DUMB!!!!!!

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Maybe you can hire frank to make you some.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Maybe...LOL

Florence, MS(Zone 8b)

Eye bolts are a problem. I have not found any as long as I would like to have them. I have not found any longer than 2 1/2 inches. A 1/4 inch shaft is the perfect size for me. The eye of that size bolt is large enough for a sheperd hook. The shaft is just right to drill a hole through the end.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Maybe the trick is to buy some nice hooks, like for pan racks, or just simple S hooks.

Beachwood, NJ(Zone 6b)

Its ok nanny, just use a "s" hook. I got my moats at WBU also.

Our dirty old fashioned hummingbird feeder, and a shy hummingbird. I think he's a ruby throated hummingbird?

Looks like a Ruby-throated Teresa.

I keep meaning to get some more "S" hooks but I keep forgetting!! I just assumed it would fit...

Hi,

I really enjoy watching hummingbirds or just birds in general.
I sometimes will sit for hours, just trying to get the perfect shot.
I have so many pictures of hummingbirds and birds on my computer, trying to think of an idea, as to what to do with all those pics. LOL !!!!!!!!!!
Anyone have any ideas, please post.
Will send pics soon, memory is low on computer now, need to transfer pics to the gadget my husband got for me.
Hmmm., wonder why the memory is low, could it be all pictures, Nah, surely not,. LOL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Marlton, NJ
