Can someone repost the link to the HB map?
Thanx!
Show Us Your Hummingbird Feeders, Vol. 1
Hi gabagoo It's in the Sticky thread that has the hummingbird on the front.
Thanks bunches!
A friend suggested that I ask if any of you have difficulty with cleaning the tops of the standard H.bird feeders. A friend told me about using denture tablets, of course you have to break up the tablets to make them fit into the neck of the feeder, and the same for the bottom, but it did work. I found that the denture tablets bubbled a lot of the gunk away and was wondering if anyone had any better suggestions. I did not refill the feeder until after I rinsed it in really hot water! Am sending photo of the feeder style I am using.
Thanks!

I use uncooked rice as my scouring agent. Just put a tablespoon or more in, and shake & swirl it around with the soapy water. I rinse with vinegar water to make sure the soap is rinsed out completly.
I bought some bottle brushes at a bird store, made just for hummingbird feeders. Also bought a set of small brushes for the ports.
I've also heard to use sand or egg shells for scrubbers.

Hi SW you can use water with a 10% bleach solution and let it soak. I haven't tried the rice trick. Rinse well and the fill with sugar water.
Do you have other hummingbird feeders? Any saucer style ones? We would love to see them too. Your pic is great!!
I bought that one too at WalMart and mine leaked also. Nice pics burn!
That's a shame it leaks Clan. It's a pretty one!
Nice one Rose!
Oh, my hummers loved that one! Later in the year the yellowjackets loved it too. I think that the ports might be able to be changed out to bee guarded ones, if I can find some that fit.
My hummers used the oriole feeder too..
I have that one too... so easy to clean
Yes, it is my fav to clean!
i have the one on the right

i thought it was a pain to clean.. but I didn't know about the rice thing... I let that one go too long once and it was bad trying to get the mold out... so many tiny spots under that base
I have the same one. Very easy to clean. Built in moat.
I've only had one HB the past couple of years, and late in the season, to boot. This pic was taken on Oct 1, 2008.
It's probably because I set up the feeder later than I should have.
My 1st was in 2007 & I didn't buy it until June. In 2008, I was going on vacation & didn't want to set it up until I returned - which was in June.
This year, I plan to get it up earlier.
Nancy
I don't have this one but thought it was so cute!

GrandMaggie, are your ant moats homemade? Do you have a picture of them on the feeder? I can't see how they would attach...
Pelletory, I love the doubledecker! I've never seen it before.. interesting how it's put together..hmm, might have to buy one and try it.
Grandmaggie, my ant moats like that are black in color and I found them at Wally World for $1.25 ea, I think it was. The added bonus to having those on the feeders-- my chickadees think it's a great place to get a drink of water! It's fun to watch them do that roller coaster flight that they do as they go from one ant moat to the next. Boy, do they raise a stink when they find an empty one!!! :)
Chris
Yes! You are right, my chicadees love to drink from them also!
Hi All,
I've enjoyed viewing all your feeders! What a great thread
I have used the saucer type feeders because of their simplicity and easy cleaning. The hummers like 'em too! LOL
I did get a new type this week and feel they will be easy to clean and use. The bottle is a 16.9 oz Lipton ice tea bottle which I can just replace after several feedings. Then just recycle it. The feeder is easy to pop apart and clean also.
Saw my first Rufous this week at the feeder...no camera in hand though
:(
Those are really cool looking feeders at the Nature Store and I like that new one of yours GGK. Did it come with the bottle and the mesh covering? I haven't seen one before. Congrats on your first Rufous...very exciting!
I got a new window feeder like Mrs. Ed's above. My old one didn't have an ant moat or perches like this new one does. I also got a fly thru Oriole feeder...recycled orange plastic and holds two orange halves and two cups for jelly. It is so pretty and will get a pic as soon as the sun shines!
Hi Dellrose,
I got the feeder on ebay and it came with everything you see Bottle not included. It's a Gadjit ...I can add a link to the seller if that is ok. I'm not certain if I can do that anymore on DG?
I did get several ant moats today! They seem to find this area where I hang a feeder very quickly!!! Darn ants
yah, you can link as long as YOU aren't the seller.
Hi MrsEd!
It's ok then I'm not the seller.
You get two for this price.

Nice feeder GardenGuy!
Has anyone ever used this little gadget for a feeder? The saleslady said it works really well. Of course I forgot to ask the name of it so I could look it up online. Anyone know?
Thanks Pelletory
I forgot to mention...just as I hung the Gadjit feeder the Anna who has been my companion all winter visited
Thanks for the link Garden Guy!
I forgot I also got the only ant moat they had a WBU...the little red tulip one like Pelles!
