Propagation: Propagation part VI based on my own experience
Sorry Dave - just saw this - Mize Farm & Garden Supply, phone: 423.434.1810. They're in Johnson City, Tennessee.
Sheryl:
No problem I just figuired you were busy planting. I know when its just you and maybe one or two helpers it takes a while to get things done.
I am thinking I can get about 50 flats together and see what comes from it next spring. Its been a slow building process, but I learned a while ago a slow build is better than a fast one that dries up. I just have to pick my crops carefully.
So how go the veggies? I am hopeing to get some forsythia stuck today. I have about 10 stock plants to take cuttings from, they are in gallon bags as well as the original plant I bought to start this whole thing.
I was told my hostas should start coming in next week. I am so pumped up about them.. Were you in on Lorraines supplies co-op last year? For some reason I bought about 200 6" azalea pots and now they are coming in handy. I also put out a few emails to distributors from container and flat's by the case. I am hopeing to get the best price but I will have to make my mind up soon so I will see which way I go. I will let you know when I decide so Everyone will be able to buy if they want in. I will open a short time limit co-op intrest. It will be a very fast one.
Dave
Kool: Thanks for the pic. I think its one I know as string of pearls. Looks like a nice no fuss plant.
Dave
You know, JB - I could never keep them alive, but I love them.
Fast co-ops are the best - but make sure you don't over-do it, Dave!
Yeah you take at easy and don't push your self hard ok. Don't want you down again. !!!!
Howdy: No over doing it on the co-ops. I am way too busy to be down again. Back in the AM.
Dave
Ah, promises.... {grin}
Mornin:
you know I never did well with them either. I always thought it took a special touch to have them survive. beibg in the succulents it must have been overwatering for me or the other extream.
Had to cover everyone up again, we hit 32 last night again. BRRRRR ..... I will be soooooooo glad when this crap quits for good. Suposed to be 2 more weeks until the ole' farmers almanac says its the last frost day. For some reason instincts say not even then I believe we have one more in us this year, and its going to be after the 15th. Oh well at least I am dealing with small pots and in smaller quantities.
I remember having to cover row after row 100' long and 6' wide. One year we lost a lot of plants. The temps droped into the 20's, I know most people on this thread are thinking 20's is not much, but it was a 3 day run of low temps. In one row we lost 3000 gallon ixora maui good times. LOL
Is everyone familiar with frost blankets? On one of my garden shows they were using it as a screen against bugs and to lower the temps during the summer heat.
Frost blankets are a woven cloth that allows air and moisture in but keeps the plants from getting too cold over a a short time. Its great stuff if you can afford it.
Well I am thinking its time for propagation round 7. Wow its hard to imagine its been 7 rounds of over 200 posts. its something....
Dave
