Iris Reticulata (Mini Iris) Can they go from pot to ground?

Louisville, KY(Zone 6b)

Hi there!
I bought a little pot of Iris Reticulata in early February. Now that they've bloomed, I'd like to prepare them to go outside. The thing is, I'm pretty sure that their timing will be confused (since they wouldn't normally bloom until later.) Is there a way for me to make it so that these bulbs will be viable when I plant them in the ground? I'm in Michigan near Flint (so Zone 5 or 6 depending upon which chart I'm reading). Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated! =)

I don't know if they would bloom again this year but yes they can be put in the ground and they will bloom again next year and at the time they normally would.

Yep flowerfantasy has it. I have planted them out after having them inside & no they shouldn't bloom this year but they will happily gather energy for next year. :)

You should wait until spring before planting it so that it doesn't just die from the shock of warm house/cold dirt.

Thank you so much!!

They're still in the house so that they can get sun, so I was afraid I was going to mess them up by not getting them in the dark or by getting them cooler. Of course, it's been so cold, I'm not putting anything outside!

I figured I would wait until the ground thawed to put them in. Should I wait until after all of the frost and freeze advisories are done?

Thank you again (and sorry for posting in two places... I'm new to this!)

I would wait till after frost advisories have passed.

Yes do wait until you know your last frost has come and gone.

Thank you again for your help! I'm really excited about this! Of course, I'm just excited to see the ground at this point! Have a nice day!

ALong the same lines- I buy pots of primroses, narcissus and hyacinths this time of year to brighten the house and nurse them along until spring to plant out. They all bloom - often the primroses bloom again in the fall.

But they are almost always so terribly root bound that water just drains thru them so once flowering is done I repot them all usually in one or two large containers to give the roots more room.

Fern, these irises are not like summer irises. Mine are inground bulbs, and they should be blooming any day now, even if there is snow on the ground. They've already broken ground. They tend to bloom just before the daffodils. You'll notice that they don't have large flat leaves or corms like the summer beauties, and they are not bearded. They also grow to be about 4 inches high. They are truly a late winter/early spring treat and will bloom in 40 degree weather or colder.

Thank you for all of your help! I didn't even think about them being root bound and I wasn't sure when my other ones had bloomed. This is all wonderful information and I hope you all have a great day!
