Okay, I finally found a picture that is from this year that hides most of my flaws . . .

All I've got that's recent is a passport photo. Trust me, I dont look a as good as MM! I'm always the one who takes the pictures. I'll see what I can do.

Athens, PA

I don't look as good as MM either.

The best picture I could find of my was one my husband took last summer of me in the Stocks in Salem Mass....... You are both way ahead of me!

^_^

Deer Park, IL(Zone 5b)

OH PLEASE! I posted mine let me see yours! How about some with mud on the knees or up to your elbows in algae. . .

Iowa City, IA(Zone 5a)

I don't look as good as MM either, but here is a relatively recent picture of me. I like it because I don't look my weight, LOL!

How charmingly puckish! Darn, I'm trying to get a good hair day. I'll post somethng by the end of the week, I promise. Yesterday our Pergo floor in the kitchen buckled! I'm trying to arrange to have the installer back for an inspection and a fix. Then last night I installed a Co2 system on the tropical tank and it isn't going well. Twice I've nearly blown my poor fish out of the water because I don't understand how to adjust the needle valve and the bubble counter to get the right bubble flow rate. The heavy release of gas immediately drops the pH, causing the pH controller to shut of the gas flow. So now I have to wait unitl the pH drifts back up and the pH controller will allow gas to flow so I can try again. I expect to lose a lot of fish over this until I get it figured out. I'm no engineer and DH isn't too helpful either. Right now my hair is standing on end.

Deer Park, IL(Zone 5b)

IC-Not only are you intelligent your young and beautiful! When I was your age little things like a couple of pounds would bother me and now I just wonder why I wasted my time because I was fine and so are you!

Thanks for sharing and not giving excuses (like our other friends . . .) LOL!

Holland, OH(Zone 5b)

HaHa!

Iowa City, IA(Zone 5a)

The reason my hair looks good in that picture is because I just got back from the salon, LOL! My New Year's resolution was to do something completely different with my hair. I figured I would set the bar low this year : )

I used to have long blonde hair (my natural color) - not as light as yours MM, but almost. This weekend I'm going for a touch up, it has been about 6 weeks and the style has kind of outgrown itself.

Iowa City, IA(Zone 5a)

Actually, just realized I had a picture uploaded for my DG profile - this give you an idea of color and length that it used to be: http://davesgarden.com/members/ic_conifers/

That was at the beginning of summer, by the end of summer it is always sunbleached really light and the roots match the rest, then it would darken over winter and the cycle would start anew each year. I wasn't going to change the color when I went to get a cut, the picture I brought with me had a model with very dark hair and my stylist was giddy, convincing me we needed to darken my hair. I have to admit, I really like it. I bought a home color kit yesterday and am going to recolor tomorrow - I cannot afford to get it recolored every 6 weeks at the salon, which is what it needs because the blonde is peeking out big time right now - hopefully I won't end up with purple hair, LOL.

Deer Park, IL(Zone 5b)

IC: I laughed when I saw what you wrote by your picture in your profile. I also, mess up clothes doing something goofy like that. Countless shoes have been dirty or stretched out beyond wearing (I tend to like to garden in sandals-particulary Born brand and the leather stretches when they get wet and eventually I am gripping hard with my toes to the point I am hurting my feet). My friends think I am nuts buying such nice sandals and ruining themi n the garden. I also, step into the pond or the stream with gym shoes and then they end up smelling horrible but those shoes are usually old. Sometimes I wear crocs but they can take the beating. . .

Athens, PA

I am not coming up with much in the way of pictures. This was taken in October of 2007 (sort of recent). I really haven't changed a lot since then, however my hair is longer - just past my chin. I am still a redhead - I have always been a redhead, however when I had both my children my hair did darken up some. So now I just have my hairdresser put the red back in!

IC - you are adorable. Snapple is right, you remind me too of Puck from a Midsummer Night's Dream - I love the impish look on your face in that picture. Don't worry about the weight - if you are truly happy that is all that matters. I was an 8 for years and then I quit smoking. I haven't been an 8 since and it's been 8 or 9 years since I stopped smoking. It is more important to be happy and healthy.

MM - you started this - brave soul that you are. I love your picture. Actually you remind me of somebody that I knew well as a child in the Rochester NY area and recently have reconnected with. Oddly enough, she ended up the next town over from my brother in the Boston MA area.

Snapple - your turn.

What an elegant lady you are Carolyn! I can't imagine you being in the garden getting dirty or playing in the pond. Please lie and tell me that you don't look this good gardening????

BTW: Did you look at IC's picture of her gardening? She is obviously not dressed for gardening-very cute picture.

Okay, I see there has been 117 views . . okay, stop lurking and start posting! Don't worry about the age lines, the gray hair and the few pounds. Love yourself and so will we! I'm sure I am not the only one who wants to put a face to these usernames!

I hope to see more of you all tomorrow!

Linda

Athens, PA

Linda,

You are very kind - actually there is no place I would rather be than out in my garden or sitting on the deck next to the pond. I typically don't put on make up for that, but lots of sunscreen - as I tend to have 2 colors - either lobster red or white ^_^ It is a good thing that my main garden and pond are all in the back yard - it is fenced with tall arbovites growing one side and a privacy fence on the other sides. I too tend to find myself poking and digging in the garden before dressing appropriately. Too often I find myself in my nightgown and robe poking and digging around back there. Those mornings I usually start with my coffee on the deck and before I am finished with my coffee, I am either poking around by the pond or way back in the garden.

Iowa City, IA(Zone 5a)

Carolyn, you do look great!

Thanks for the compliments everyone : )

I remember snapple saying at the beginning of this week that she would post a picture "later in the week." Snaps, it is later in the week : )

Elizabeth

Deer Park, IL(Zone 5b)

149 views-I don't see anymore pictures - bad, bad lurkers. . . Snapple, Elizabeth is right-Thursday is the end of the week!

I wonder if Dinu is reading this? I would like to see what Dinu looks like. In my mind I think Dinu is a man but maybe I am wrong. Dinu-RU out there? Can you post a picture?

What about Evesta-what do you look like?

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

OK - if I have to - this pic shows me with my two greatest loves - (other than DH and kids, of course) - the garden and my baby Sherlock - Dax (Becki)

Don't forget about Tetleytuna......... and I see there are some posters that are newer - Gloriag......

Deer Park, IL(Zone 5b)

That's a great picture. Now I can put a face to Sherlock's Mom . . . Great garden behind you. I love the colors and textures combined with the bridge in front. Ahhh, I miss gardening and digging in the dirt and "playing" outside with my speaker rocks playing. . . okay, sorry about that. It was a mental health break down for spring!

Dax: How did you get that user name? Thanks for posting-now I feel as I know you better! I guess the people who live in Iowa have a lot more confidence than other areas of the country. . . Maybe we should do a road trip there?

Deer Park, IL(Zone 5b)

Yeah, where is Tet lately? I hope she out in the garden posing for some pictures . . .

Athens, PA

Speaking of roadtrips, haven't seen MerryMary in a while.........

Dax - great picture and I just love Sherlock.......

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

Thanks - I'm sure IC and I would love a visit - we've got alot of Dave's Garden folks here, and meet regularly just to visit!

My name - Dax - is in memory of my last baby - Dax, our German Shepherd. We lost her four years ago, but I remember her every day through my name. Originally, the name is from Star Trek - Jedzia Dax. Here she is as we were putting in the pond and stream - we lost her that summer from cancer.

As you can tell - I've taken ALOT of pictures over the years. That's why losing almost all of 2008 wasn't too much of a catastrophe - my hard drive crashed before I could back them up. DANG!

Iowans love a party!!! Potlucks are a large affair in this part of the country.

Dax, your GSD sure was a pretty girl. We love our corgis but I wonder if I could ever have another when Penny dies. She is fine right now, but on half a dozen medications to keep her that way and only 6 years old. Here she is about a month ago taking a nap.

Dax looks beautiful by the pond-doesn't look sick at all. I love how green and lush you yard always looks-even when you were digging out the stream. What's your secret?

IC: Corgi's the Queens dog! A lot of them run around (with their owners in tow on leash) in my MIL's village. l. I didn't realize corgi's were prone to a lot of medical conditions. I think they're cute with their little legs. Boy do the English love, LOVE their dogs! Everyone is forever walking them in and around the village and the country lanes (and meet up to gossip with one another). A short walk to my 80 year old MIL is 1/2 mile but more commonly she will take the dog 2 times a day for a mile each time. She may be 80 but she is so young in her body and mind! Her little Welsh Terrier keeps her going!

Ocoee (W. Orlando), FL(Zone 9b)

I'm here! I coach HS lacrosse, and have been going non-stop! I'll try to find a picture that isn't offensive to anyone, lol!
:)

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

What a cutie! I missed her when we had the pot luck - was she on the back porch? For everyone, IC has a veritable zoo at her house - just great! She has two cats, Penny, three beautiful parrots, and Poppy (and three more now?)! Did I miss anyone? And it's clear she's an excellent Mommy to them all.

I and my DH both said we couldn't have another dog when we lost Dax, BUT, our friends talked us into looking and my son Colin researched Bassetts and found puppies in southern Iowa. Went, fell in immediate love, and now can't imagine life without him -- here he is as a babe! Who could resist? When we got him home, he crawled under a car, and it took us 2 hours to get him out. Note the ears - he would actually trip over them when he was small. (By the way, he has full health insurance - don't want another situation where you have to make a decision about your baby that had to involve the cost of care!!!! Heartbreaking!) - Dax

Dax, all three of our dogs were in the backyard (with back porch access) on the day of the potluck. Since it was such a nice warm day, I put them outside instead of upstairs in our bedroom where they normally are when guests are in the house. They all LOOOOOOVE visitors, but really get underfoot!

Umm...bad news...Poppy the koi jumped out of his tank the night the new fish arrived....he was mummified when I found him in the morning.

Here is Chester, our other corgi, using Bailey the collie as a pillow.

Ah - I thought I saw a Collie at the pot luck - but didn't see your Corgi's. Even MORE of a menagerie than I thought!

Re: Poppy - such a shame! How are the others doing? I lost four koi this winter (now that the pond has defrosted), but 2 survived. Of course, all the goldfish survived but one. I just think the koi need more care than I can give them - there's no way I could take them inside all winter, and I think those -28 degree days were too much. So from here on out, I'm sticking with goldfish - I've got about five that are a good 10" long now and very pretty. I'll need to give some of the others away or take them to Pets Playhouse since I've got too many in the pond. I'll do that when I clean out the pond this spring. The whole feature needs a complete clean this year. Luckily, I can do the top pond first, let it settle for about 2 weeks, move the fish up, and then do the bottom pond, so I can manage the stress on the fishies. - Dax

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

Hey, mothermole and Carolyn - Thanks so much for your kind comments - From what I've learned lurking, both of you have SO MUCH knowledge about ponds, I just like to keep up with your info and stories. Certainly I can't add anything, that's for sure!! Will love to see some more pics as spring begins --

Per the garden and green questions - I'm just a big believer in compost, mulch, and water. I don't add fertilizer to anything, but do control for pests through the season. As a retiree (I can see you folks are much too young), I have the luxury of being out in the gardens all day during the season. I also make sure to supplement water, and I have found that having plants next to the water automatically gives them additional moisture and humidity, which is great! I just try to follow the golden rule to put the right plant in the right place -- it's always worked well for me. Here's a pic of the habitat area near the house. I LOVE this area - Dax

Well, I'm mostly a lurker here, but I always enjoy putting faces with names, so I'll pitch in with mine. Usually I'm covered in dirt from head to toe! So this isn't quite a true representation!

I am still here! I am so touched that someone actually noticed that I was missing. :^)

I don't have any pics to post but may try to work on that when the weather warms up a bit. Have been spending some time in the co-op forum. Such a bad place for me to be this time of year when I am SO ready to plant things and be in the garden.

In the meantime here is a pic of the other Tetleytuna aka Tessa.

Elizabeth - I love your menagerie. My husband said to me years ago, "what would you do if I wasn't here?" and I promptly replied, "I'd have more pets!". Needless to say, that didn't go over very well.

Dax -Your puppies are both so handsome! You also have another beautiful shot of your garden - I am envious - I wish mine looked as good.

SongsofJoy - you have such a wonderful smile and you are so pretty. You always have such wondeful waterfall pictures. You will have to post some of them to help us get through to spring.

I am posting a picture of one of my babies - she isn't too spoiled is she?

Linda -

great thread.

Has anybody heard from Snapple?

Hope all is well and she is just looking for a picture.......

Columbia, MO(Zone 5b)

Caroloyn22, Such a beautiful kitty! Naah, I am sure she is not spoiled a bit. NOT!

Love the pic of Sherlock. We had a basset a number of years ago and would love to have another someday. Other doggies just keep finding us though. Currently we have a black lab named Lucy, a rottie/aussie named Grace and a blonde shar-pei named MoMo. All of these guys are rescues that probably would not be alive right now if we had not found each other.

Athens, PA

Tet -

I love your Tessa - she's a sweetie!

Deer Park, IL(Zone 5b)

Songs: Great picture I do believe you win the beauty contest of the day!

Carolynn: Is that a dollface Persian? I had a red persian many years ago named Mr. Oliver Boddington (Bodd's for shorts) and after he pass I adopted an exotic shorthair (a short haired version of a persian) from a shelter. I absolutely adored that cat! The sweetest smartest 4 pounds I ever knew! Unfortunately, it died of kidney failure at a young age. Most people aren't aware that persians and exotic's (as well as many other purebred cats) are very trainable and NOT aloof like a lot (but not all) regular cats.

Holland, OH(Zone 5b)

Ok, here I am , double chin and all. I tried to use the cat to hide some of the fat. Didn't work. The cat is "Sir Eric The Red Who Can Do No Wrong". He enjoyed having his picture taken about as much as I did. I will be posting somewhat infrequently, as a leaking dishwasher has destroyed a laminated floor in my utility room, kitchen and on into the dining room. Maybe the base kitchen cupboards too. We are trying to dry them out without warping the bases. We are dealing with the insurance adjuster today at 1:00. The water had leaked under the laminate flooring between it and the sub floor, and collected under the cupboards on the sub floor. Everyone of the dog & kitty pics made me smile today. What a great bunch of folks you all are. How I would love to sit down and have cup of coffee with all of you.

Snapple that is a great picture!

So sorry that you're dealing with all those horrible problems. We had a leaky toilet that leaked into our kitchen ceiling and caused a lot of damage. Luckily, we were able to cover most of the costs between insurance and suing the former owner of the house (he concealed the damage). Water problems are just the worst!!!

Tet and Carolyn, I love your cat pictures! Personally, I'm not a huge cat person, but I think that is because my hubby's two cats are just terrors. NOT nice cats. Given the chance, they pee on everything that is porous. They live in the basement because the marking was too much to take. One runs for a dog bed every chance she (yes, she) gets. The other, a large male Ragdoll, has taken to trying to assault our poor Penny the corgi. Penny likes to follow me into the basement when I work on the baby koi pond or do laundry. Chili, the Ragdoll, who weighs only about 4 pounds less than Penny and is taller than her, has taken to chasing and swatting at her. I've intervened every time but he does have claws and I'm afraid of Penny getting hurt so I am very cautious. I don't know if Chili is just getting territorial or is jealous because he wants my attention or what is going on. The cats are now on a rationed diet, they are both like sumo wrestler sized - they have an automatic feeder that dispenses three times a day. I think it has made them both rather bitter, they were used to unlimited rations until just a few weeks ago.

Here is Lucy, my blue & gold macaw, out on her playpen a few weeks ago. The parrots have their own room, but I like to wheel Lucy out of there on her playpen for family time so she is not so territorial around her cage - we call it "forced socialization!"

Thumbnail by ic_conifers

Snapple, you have such a wonderful, kind face and I love Sir Eric. I am sorry you are dealing with such problems. Water damage can be awful and it can happen without any of us knowing it until much later.

Elizabeth - I love the parrots. I told my husband a long time ago that I wanted a red macaw. It hasn't happened yet, but I am still hoping. As far as your cats peeing on everything - there maybe something underlying about that. They could be angry with you and are letting you know or it could be something as simple as they don't like the brand of litter. I had a cat that would go just 6inches outside the box - after much sleuthing I found that she was trying to tell me she didnt like the litter. I changed her over to the plain clay litter and she went back to using the box. The picture of the cat I posted, is prone to urinary tract infections and I can always tell when she has another infection - she uses the dining room as a litter box (yum!)

I too would like to sit down and have cup of coffee with everyone. I think that is a wonderful idea! I told Linda that I really liked this thread - it was a great idea. I feel I know everyone so much better!
