I think it's a sedum, but I don't know which one---but it's lovely and in a very nice pot!

Livermore, CA(Zone 9b)

that's cute! the pot is really pretty.

Thank you for the complement Toots and Red. Succulents don't seem to make as much trouble and annuals etc.

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Lovely, and the perfect pot to accent it.

I just noticed the beautiful blue and white pot in the background, too. I have one similar that I use as the base of a side-table. I can't bear to plant anything in it and have it get dirty or damaged...LOL!

San Diego, CA(Zone 10b)

Snowtop, welcome to the thread! Hopefully we'll get you addicted soon, you are the first person I see who can stop at only one succulent, (so far) lol!

Santa Cruz, CA(Zone 9b)

I've got some succulents that are out growing thier pots mostly pink and mint green colors with some lavender sedum. I need to repot them and divide but i'm uninspired. if i post pix do you think you guys could give me some ideas? maybe i need different containers : $

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Post away. I too need to repot a lot of mine. Some have pernicious weeds living in them so I am anxious to get rid of the weeds.
Do you have a good pottery outlet near you? Might want to take a walk through and see what catches you eyes as far as pots go. I've always had my best successes with terra cotta pots, because they breathe, but other types are just as suitable.

hmm, i will. Good idea. Sounds like a wonderful little outing. Just have to find a moment. LOL.....I'm holding my new born and my son is yelling for me to come help make pancakes. got to charge the camera etc. I actually have a bit of a problem with browsing the pottery store here. not as bad as my compulsive plant buying problem but still dangerous!

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Honey, you need a break. Kids are fun, but it is hard to do anything with two hanging on you like your're a tree.
Get DH to give you a couple hours of "ME Time". Leave wallet at home. Take Drivers' licence and cell phone. It'll be good for him to have bonding time with the kids. Especially at their age!
LMK how that works out for you. Helped me!

You are right on!

San Diego, CA(Zone 10b)

I say, leave the cell phone too! lol!

Livermore, CA(Zone 9b)

second that, and take the wallet just in case.

pretty - love how blue !

How is the top of your slope going?

Orange, CA

Ima - the planters are Talavera - bought them in Old Town San Diego.

Thanks for the welcome Rob.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Robcorreia, such a nice combo pot you have there. I am obsessed with making them now. I am having trouble finding succulents with height though to add to them. Sue, nice shopping spree you had. I love your take.

Gosh SW, what fun is a little me time with no wallet! LOL Wonderearth, leave the kids home and take your wallet and your husband's too! LOL

I need some big planter troughs for my succulents so I have spent the last couple days reading about hypertufa. I think I am going to try to make some. I really like how succulents look in them, better than they look in clay. I just wish I had some Martha Stewart genes like Janet has! They are supposed to be light and cheap. Though not to buy just to make.

Today I actually accomplished putting together a semp pot. I think it will look great when it grows in abit.

what's hypertufa?I'm looking for ideas

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

What I like is you can design your own shape to match the plant. I am trying to figure out what forms to use though.

Nice semp pot Kell, I see you found some reds. I am about ready to make mine too.
Beautiful combo robcorreia! These are so fun to put together.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

They are addicting to make, Sue! LOL

I so suffer from magical thinking. I have 3 of those pots, they are really big bonsai pots from my bonsai days. I have been buying semps since last year when you and Evey were talking about them so much. In my mind those pots were so huge that I had to buy every semp I saw to fill it. Well reality is so much smaller. LOL. I now have semps all over.

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

They are fun to tuck in every where!

San Diego, CA(Zone 10b)

Kell, I love your semps! I'm totally with you. Making succulent arrangements is so addicting!
I think I have a new addiction: hanging cactus, lol

I wish I had more mature trees or an arbor for hanging more epiphyllum. I have a few hanging under my orange and lemon trees and see buds forming on some I haven't seen bloom yet, exciting! This was one from last year, an unknown one from a fellow DG member from a few years back. They don't look like much when not in bloom but man, when they do bloom, WOW!

The blooms are quite large and this one just glows.

I do not have the kind of yard to tuck such things. No short borders. So I must use pots.

Those are gorgoeus, Sue. I have a few and 2 of my big ones rotted some what over winter. They were hanging from a tree branch in shade. Are yours in sun?

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Morning sun only. I have one from my elderly neighbor across the street, she gave me cuttings about three years ago. My first one was from Happenstance about 4 years ago looks similar. I have several more that I got in the last year or two and have yet to see bloom, colors are white, yellow and orange. I mix half cactus mix and half small orchid bark and so far no rot problems.

Here's another one from a friend.

Okay, quit holding out on me. What do you mean when you say semp pots?
Succulents are addictive. Couldn't believe how many I found under the weeds in the gh, when I started to get to work in there. I definitely have enough to fill several containers now. LOL!
Too right about ME time without a credit card at least! LOL! The only reason for the cell phone is if she breaks down on her way home. I never said she had to turn it on! LOL!
Where should I put those epi's that my sister gave me that I keep almost killing? I would like to let them live, and it hasn't been easy for them with me. Right now mine are in the gh, but it is too humid/wet in there for them, I think. They like hanging and need partial shade? Not much water either. Is that right?
Will take a photo of my sad babies tomorrow.

Morning sun I can do! Yippee! The mix is a help too, was wondering about that as well. Thanks Calif_Sue.
Now I got to say those are gorgeous blooms. Makes it worth keeping them around! LOL!

Sempervivums, like the pot Kell just did above, the teal one (love that color by the way!!)
I have several unnamed ones but here is my journal list of the ones I bought online last fall.

(fixed link)

They can get almost full sun, maybe shade in the afternoon when it's the hottest. Most of mine do better with several hours of morning sun. Too much shade and they tend to stretch to get to the light.
I just picked up several more today at HD, Target and Lowes. Hiding them from hubby. But these are to replace the hail damaged ones which will be recovering on the side of the house where I keep cuttings and grow seeds to place in the garden at a later date.

I don't so much hide them from DH, just act like they've always been there! LOL!
My poor Bird of Paradise still hasn't recovered from being hailed on last spring.
I totally get it.
Thanks for the hyperlink, as always they help!

Oh Sue - those blooms are just incredible !

San Diego, CA(Zone 10b)

Oh man, those epiphyliums are incredible!
Sue, do you detect any fragrance at all? (The blooms from the string of pearls are quite fragrant, but you really have to stick your nose in the plant!)

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Not that I noticed on these ones but I will pay more attention this year.

San Diego, CA(Zone 10b)

And let us know!
