Today's Weather in Your Garden - 40

Thomaston, CT

We have 7" here now & still snowing heavily---19 deg---EEEEEKK--that's me shrieking! If you want global warming, check out my 2 favs this winter---my nephew was supposed to fly to Billings today, where it's 56 deg, & Denver is reaching 71 deg today---they have had NO winter!

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

All the pretty snow pictures! We got NONE!

NOW, who wants to live in BUFFALO??!!??

^_^

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

DH thinks we got about 7"

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

we got another 2 inches since this morning... and boy the wind is pretty strong

They had us:
1st 10-14"
2nd 8-10"
Now the warning is done and we got 2" Other then being wrong on this, I might start to like them?

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

We have 8" and not done yet.

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

I am just hoping that everyone comes through this safely!

I know a lot of areas, esp. those in the south, are ill equipped to handle snow.

We're lucky .... we have had practice handling it, how ever deep.

South Hamilton, MA

Our snow has stopped, so coming your way pixie. Just relax & pay no attention to it--get well.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Snowing pretty hard again here. Still under 6 inches. Hard to believe the NYC public schools closed.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

snow had stopped and now starting again - i guess i'll be out there one more time to snow blow before tonight

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

looks more like the great ice age to me
those liars no global warming my way
if they are right lol make it soon before
I go broke paying to heat my house

You go broke - heating? HA Right now we are up over 3 maybe 4 cords of wood and still going and 2000 US dollars. We are going to have to be filled up 1 more time and that is going to be at least another grand. It will be around 300 for the house and 700 if not more for the GH.

A lot of you know that we have 2 garages. Well they dont get filled - only with wood this time of year. That is NOT my 3-4 cords in the house.

EDITED - And I help cut and lug all that wood. Some days my arms are broke.

I have been paying about 650 every three weeks since the end of october for oil for the house and we burn wood during the day thank good with 2.5 acres we collect the wood and pay nothing for it
but I heard that the city is now going to stick there nose into things and we will not be able cut wood on our own property without paying for a permit lol

so I told DH that before the law goes into affect july 1st we are going to go around and see what we want down and cut everything we want so we will have wood for the next 10 years or so most of the property is trees and some are dead and some are in bad shape so we going to thin them out so the rest will be health and not dangerous to fall on the house or something

I know the feeling with the arms lol we do it to and I am there day after day lol

I dont know about Canada. Here we can cut 10 cords on our property without a permit. Over 10 then pay the dang taxes -"IF" you get caught.

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

because we are within the city limits they want us to pay but everyone does it but July they will efforce it and there is always a snitch so this spring we going to do what we need to and then aw well to bad right

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

Rosa Parks broke the law .... and look at how far we've come. Granted, it took forever!

Sometimes the law just isn't right.

(I know ..... gasp!)

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

they put in the law on cutting trees in the city because the city planted them and people would just cut them down for no reason, I would never clear cut my property that is so bad for the environment but when trees are dying because of lack of water because it is just to many trees well we are going to fix that by select thinning and then hopefully it will keep them healthy

Now, THAT I can understand and appreciate. We have rules about de-foresting even here, in Buffalo.

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

the woods are so thick that we have trouble walking into them and I noticed that many loose there leaves midway in the summer from stress of no water

its funny about the city butting into my business but 6 miles away they cleared everything for one mile long and 5 miles wide to build houses and put in a home depot and a supermarket it looks awfull and the little animals are running in the road since now they have no homes lol that was about 20 thousand trees lol they should be ashamed of themselves for doing that they could have fixed it but more cost of leave as many trees as posible but no

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

Ever since businesses can now claim eminent domain, we're all doomed.

I better stop before I get myself into trouble!

Hehehehehe

Here they can take 6' of your land to make the road bigger. Then they come again 2 years down the road and do the road again. Do your taxes go up? Everytime they come around............

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

well hydro took an 28 foot easement all along my property without us even being told about it and they didnt pay for it I went to the city and put is a claim dispute if they want the darn land they had better pay for it now they have dumped old hydro poles all the the edge of my property without asking or informing us my husband is livid and he say they do not have the right without paying and informing us and since he is a civil engineer he says he knows the law about these things and he wants them to clean it up or he will sue them and he sent them a letter stating they have till april 1st to do it and he sent it in october and they have not even replied

so that is 28 feet wide by 420 long that is the size of 4 city lots for god sake

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

outrageous! They rely on folks being stupid ..... even more of an insult!

Yonkers, NY(Zone 5b)

About 8-9 inches here.
There's a 2 foot drift in my yard.
I'm glad the wind was coming from the south & not the other way.
If it had, I wouldn't have been able to open my back door.

Victor- I know hat you mean about the NYC public schools.
They NEVER close for snow. This is the 1st time since 2004.
From kindergarten-12 grade, I had maybe, 3 or 4 snow days.
I remember listening to the radio for those magic words, "The NYC Public Schools are CLOSED!" only to be disappointed.

Did someone mention SPRING?

Nancy

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

well DH maybe many things hahahahah but stupid is not one of them I trained him well hahahhaha

they will have to clean it and move on or buy the property from us which is ok but I will insist on a 6 foot fence the lenght of the property if they do buy it so I dont have to look at their mess

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, Nancy, I can only remember a few days myself. I think the blizzard of '77 was one.

I would make them clean it period. I would not let ANY property go.

I think the blizzard of '77 - I can remember. James Bond - Gold Finger It was dark out. Around 9 p.M.

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)
