Today's Weather in Your Garden - 40

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Good move, David. The (probably wet) snow will crush them.

Clinton, CT(Zone 6b)

We shall see Victor. The ones in the front lawn will have to tough it out...these closer to the house were looking good this morning and I figured why not box 'em up...

Flurries this morn, 27 , cloudy, & raw right now----this new storm better be a miss, or you'll hear the screeching from this house!

Clinton, CT(Zone 6b)

Robindog.....for once this year, I think the coast will get more. Really active storm tho....check this infrared loop from Rutgers.

http://envsci.rutgers.edu/~decker/imgs/wv2_east_anim.gif

Looks tropical! (but it isn't of course). Virginia is the center now...won't be long..

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow - huge system. And quite 'dark' in the center.

Clinton, CT(Zone 6b)

Victorgardener....here is the meteorologist and student forum on which the loop was posted:

http://www.easternuswx.com/bb/index.php?showforum=15

They are very excited about this system. They said that loop has an "Intense Baroclinic Leaf."

I never would have suspected . . .

Thanks David. Seems you're a weather geek like me. I can't wait to get my own station.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

I find weather interesting, but sometimes the talk goes over my head. We are expecting 6-10"

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

'Backdoor front' is one of my favorite weather terms.

Clinton, CT(Zone 6b)

Anita...TV weather here one night went on and on about how to scrap ice off a car windshield, how to unfreeze your car door locks (hot water works but be careful because water freezes eventually when its cold out!) and how snow tires are good for driving in snow.....seems there is that and then the professional meteorological sites which have some great stuff but also go into into areas which are, to me, unintelligable (and which I'm not all that interested in learning about anyways).

Seems there should be a market for in-between folks...

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Congrats to your son on his pinewood victory, Victor! How cool!

Happy March everyone! We're closer and closer to Spring and daylight savings time!

Cold front moving through here right now.....blustery and cool with fresh air knocking over a small table lamp in the living room. This morning we moved some plants around so they'll have time to get settled in before we leave 2 months from today.

David - hope your prettly little spring flowers aren't hurt by the snow. They must be so cheerful to see right now after such a long, hard winter!

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

I agree David. It is a fascinating science though.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

Well - they have updated our possible snow accumulations to 10-14". If the office is closed tomorrow, I will totally enjoy the weather. Otherwise, I could do with out it. One thing good about the snow. I just wintersowed some more seed!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

We were 10-14 earlier. Now it's been reduced a bit to 8-12 inches. Not much difference!

8-12 exepected - still stinks.

Flights out of Bradley International in Hartford have already been canceled. My BIL was headed to Albuquerque in the morning.

He thought.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Well, I won't be at the Global Warming Rally. Snow will be too deep!

We got cut in half from 8-12" to 4-8" !!! Still stinks.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

America has lost an icon of better days. Paul Harvey passed away yesterday at the age of 90. I'm guessing there aren't many who don't know who he is or have at least heard his voice. I would imagine it is one of the most recognized voices in American Broadcasting. He has been delivering the news to Americans via radio since 1951, his last broadcast was in Dec. 2008.
His famous line's "AND NOW THE REST OF THE STORY" and "GOOD DAY!" will always be remembered, and for me sorely missed.

It's snowing very hard here....almost blizzard like conditions at times with the wind coming out of the North. YUK!

There is 5" already on the ground!!
Weatherman just came on and said we are getting 2" per hour with near white out conditions. I wasn't planning on going anywhere anyways. lol

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

We have just a dusting of snow overnight, maybe 1 of the 1-3 inches predicted. More on the way for today .... But, the sun is doing its best to show up now and then.

19 and snowing hard. Not sure how much we've gotten. Kids and wife are home.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

I shoveled 7" of snow this morning at 5 am! I brought the front porch cat in for the day. I hope the welded wire on the cat room screen door holds him or there could be blood when I get home tonight. :( Word is that it is still snowing in Bridgeport.
