oh, yay!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

can't wait to smell your roses Kassia!

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

It's raining here - not snowing! So that's a good sign. Lots of green lawn outside my office window . . .

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Can't get here fast enough. If we can get to March without another big dump of snow and get the batch still on the ground to go away we should be in good shape. Any storms after that even if they dump a lot of the white stuff with the warmer sun won't be sitting there very long. The layer we are trying to melt away now has been hanging around since end of Dec. Can't believe I am saying this but mud would be a nice change at this point.

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

HA!

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

anything would be nice been looking at snow since the first week of november I tell you
I have seriously had enough of this stuff. ready for anything else month of rain what ever

(Zone 4a)

I am excited too!! Anxious is more like it. We just had another dumping of snow so I am a tad bit diasappointed.

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

we got over 6 inches and its snowing again which is kinda strange since the sun is shining thru it kind of looks nice but not that nice I still want it all gone and to see dirt and green

Hey Dawn!

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Hi Dawn!

Kershaw, SC(Zone 8b)

I'm in College Station right now, and the Red Buds are blooming, the Agave are bigger than I am, any Cycads are stately and huge...the palms are majestic...BUT...HUGE BUT...I see no hostas popping up out of the ground, I see no daffodils, tulips, hyacinths or any other typical Spring bulbs blooming :-/ The weather is nice, totally comfortable in jeans and a short sleave tshirt/shirt, night time is a little chilly (enough for a hoodie/pull over), but no Spring flowering bulbs anywhere? I've seen some ornamental kale, and some other annuals (or I'm assuming they are annuals...lol)...I've seen more types of Agave, Palms, and Yuccas that I can't even begin to identify! I'm going to try and get a picture of me standing near one of the Agaves near a strip mall/store area...I swear the thing is atleast 5' high, and about that big around!

Later~

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Unfair, Thom!! Enjoy.

Thom enjoy the short sleeve shirt ! grrrrr

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Sounds very nice even if there are no bulbs to be seen. Looking forward to seeing your pics of the other kind of spring plants and flowers. Oh ya, also very jealous of knocking about with short sleeve shirt and no winter coat. Have a lovely time.

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

Carrollton, OH(Zone 6a)

I want to see green outside so bad,I could scream...LOL.

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

Can I ask what rose that is you started the thread with - Kassia? It is very nice - it reminds me of the photos I've been seeing in catalogs for Sheila's Perfume. I am interested in getting one.

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

oh everyone, just working a lot... but I have the day off tomorrow... not a bad drive back home today. more snow in Burlington than Framingham... so 128 was clean and not a problem tonight!

ah, nothing like waiting for Spring to come... at this point I am just telling myself that it does not matter... spring will come and I am going to San Francisco in April and that it's ok if it snows... it will not last... oh can't help it... so happy!!!!!!!

and I hope to have a lot of blooms this year... miss those roses so much!...

Medway, MA(Zone 5b)

Thanks, Kassia!

We got all rain last night, yay!

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

ok so what happens march 21st lol here it will be the same snow and sleet and hail

we do not thaw out till april sometimes may no planting of tender plants my way till last week in may or first week in june

so what is a date on a calender lol nothing hhahahhahaha

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

Memorial Day is safe planting here (all my orchids come outside) but I sometimes sneak in a plant earlier in May.

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

I usually plant all direct sowing of cold weather vegies as soon as the grown can be worked last week of april and they the rest of the seeds mother day weekend and wait till last weekend of may for tomatoes and peppers and take out all tender annuals flowers at the same time, geraniums and perennials on the long weekend it is an art of getting everything planted in four weekends hahahha then I just sit and watch it all grow that is the best time because I know that three weeks later the weeding has to start

I love the process of growing planting and caring for everything its the nurturer in me, I am an obsessed gardener every year it just expands more flower bed bigger vegie garden and the trimming and clean up it is all so satifying to see everything fall into place,

what I hate is the coming of fall the dying stage is so depressing it all turns dark and cold again man I need a place down south so I can avoid winter all together

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

I grow orchids and amaryllis to get through winter without having to move. Sounds like we have the same schedule!

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

same zone hahahha you are a little furthur south but the frost date are close maybe a couple of nights diff which is no diff at all hahahha

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

oh I got so sad today... I went to Barnes and nobles and read the farmer's almanaque... it says that we can have a frost in May... goodness gracious it's really not what I want... and a humid and sticky days in early June... oh my roses... they will open all at once again... oh well, let's see what it is going to be...

I got some more seeds today... not that I am planting anything yet...

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

but at 6a its normal to have some frost in the first 10 days or so, make sure to keep tender perennials covered at night if you are putting them out before the long weekend
I use the painters drop sheets from the dollar store 10 by 10 feet for a dollar I keep a dozen or so in the garage so if a freak frost come I just cover the annuals with those it works great and they are cheap

I have put plastic over tomato plants for one night and murdered them.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

got to remember to take it off before the sun comes out... that's for sure

It was plastic bags like from walmart. I dont think the sun came out. I do know the plastic was touching them.

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

its better to put in a few sticks to keep the plastic from touching and take them off early as soon as frost disapears

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

maybe not thick enough

??

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

mine was pretty thin and it worked I actually put all my plants out mid april last year and kept them under the plastic for about a month worked good for me but it was on the south side of the house maybe that helped

My veggie garden is on the south side. People here said dont use plastic use sheets. It dont matter I dont use them bags no more!

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

bags dont keep enough heat close to the ground sheets keep larger area warmer its the grounds heat that you want to conserve so sheets will do that for you

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Only ten days until the clock change!!

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

cool like daylight in the moring makes it easier to get up and function hahhaha
what is funny is that I do not need light in the evenings no problem staying awake but in the morning waking up in darkness kills me

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

yeah!!!
