How to hide rose knees

Midland City, AL

What are some of your favorite plants to put under and around rose bushes? I love the flowers, but, let's face it, the actual bushes are less that beautiful and need to have their "legs" covered (or at least mine do!) I planted some "Walkers Low" nepeta but I need some other ideas. Any suggestions?

There was a thread recently on the Rose Forum on this topic, you might get some ideas there.

I planted mini roses at the feet of my bigger roses. Those and snapdragons. Ignore the grass growing in there. I had trouble getting into the yard last year.

I planted tulips and daffodils in between my rose bushes when I had them. Where I live now, I'm not bothering with rose bushes. I'm dealing with peony bushes which smell just as pretty if not more. Plus the peony bushes bloom much better.

Rhodie, I envy you your peonies! I have a thread on the peony forum asking advice on how to grow peonies in my area. I'm gonna give it a try.

What zone are you in? I know they need some amount of winter chill in order to bloom well, that's why people don't normally grow them in warmer zones (may be other reasons too, but that's one of them).

I grow roses and my family has grown them for years we have found that roses like thier space they dont realy like any other plants aroun them because the other plants will steal nutiants and minerals that the rosses badly need plus roses like to set out a large root system with no other plants competeing for thier space my advice is to use a mulch or even decorative gravel and some lawn orniments

I planted roses last spring, and lavender around them. It looks good, especially since the lavender took off, and so far they seem to be coexisting just fine.
