Pitchers and catchers are already in FL so spring can't be far away.

New marriage pill?

Good save, Bill!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i broke down yesterday and started some seeds - eggplants, basil, three different peppers, parsley, and some marjoram

later today will get the leeks going.

i am going to try and hold off a few weeks on the t-plants

getting itchy

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Artichokes soon wha?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Isn't still a bit early for you?? Never tried leeks. Easy to grow?

The earliest I have started veggies is March 10th and they got 2' tall before planting time.

Moi or wha? Too early for veggies for moi but I'm new to artichokes so I'm following wha's lead.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Silly schickenlady it's been spring for weeks ^_^

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

d-nut the artichokes from seed start real easy - i'd wait - for me i'm hoping the ones i moved made through the winter

victor i might be a bit early - the peppers and basil always take a long time to germinate for me. Leeks are easy to grow - putting in about 100 of them - wife already laughed at me saying its too many - of course she did the same the last two years and were sorry when they were gone - starting now to get a good root system going.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Do you have a special sand patch for the leeks wha?

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

sherrie i don't care:) so i'll have big basil and peppers - i got those 4" cow pots from the coop and should have got the 3"ers so they will be ok in those later on.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

How big do leeks get?

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

dnut i just make 4 or 5 rows right in the garden - don't use sand - although we've though about adding some since the dirt is so rich there now with all the peat i've been putting in the last 5-6 years. no peat will go in this year.

3" pot will hardly hold them up when the get that tall. I had to buy dowel sticks. Then they would tip over easy. If you get a flat full with the proper size pot they do stand up a bit better.

I am talking tomats, peppers

they get maybe 16" hign - and a couple inches around - you are suppose to plant them 6" apart - i don't

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i've had the height problem with t-plants - never with peppers of basil - so right now i'm "hoping" to have the problem

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

I have standard trash cans that I can't use because our city has issued new ones that can be picked up by an automated truck. do you think there is any chance I can use them to grow potatoes in this year?

Yes potato's in a can works. Bill I started jalapenos on march 10th and they got tall, 2' plus. Besides up here you cant plant rule of thumb till Memorial Day weekend. A lot of us cheat and go earlier. I use 3" pots and 2 months they get tipsy.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

I'd start basils now if I had any room left in the indoor growop. They are compact plants for the most part. GO WHA GO!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

sherrie you have me concerned - no turning back now though they are in the dirt, heating mats on, and lights on the timer.

Bill just be prepared to stake them, again dowel sticks or what ever you can get your hands on. In a regular house some tall growth but nothing that cant be handled. Stick them in a tray. Short ones on the outside and tall on the inside and they will help hold themselves up.

In the GH last year I started around April 13th. Dont forget GREEN HOUSE and they tomatoes were 2' tall when I went out to sell them in the middle of May and by moving them to another location - They were tipping over....bad.....

Dont forget I do things different. Like I fertilize every 5th watering.

I had no idea there was even a state flower day

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i do not fertilize until they are in the ground - did it once and like you they were 2' tall and leggy

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Usually, fertilization doesn't even pop into my head until they are tall and leggy.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

I don't think they 'celebrate' a state flower day onewish. Today is the day they named your state flower so I think of it as 'state flower day' for NJ. I just learned it in the DG Garden History items. Of course they SHOULD celebrate state flower day. The Alberta provincial flower is the Wild Rose (rosea acioularis). It was chosen by school children in 1930 so it can't be tied down to a day.

HI y'all from down here in sunny (NOT) Northeaster Florida.

Announcement-----drum roll please-----the Carolina Jasmine is (or is that are) blooming!!!!!!!!

Next on my count down to spring will be the willows putting out there green leaves.

The last plant will be the pecan trees who do not put out leaves until the last chance of frost is past.

Thomaston, CT

Smart pecans! I am starting some flower seeds tomorrow, but veggies not until middle of March---am only starting tom. & peppers that were free seeds----don't have a whole lot of room in the veggie patch---

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

ooooohhhhhhh

Good Grief its only Febuary...... DH pulled out my plank I put in the south windows. I am going to walk down to the GH and pull some stuff out. Seeding flats, Seed starter. Maybe I will start some black pansies.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Dogs will hate me. Their feeding spot gets moved.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

wha got me thinking...I'll start my pansies and Dragon wing begonias today.

Greensboro, AL

"Spring is not too far off", Victor said hopefully.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Anita by the moon planting guide the best days to start begonias are the 19, 20 and 21st.. have it marked on my calender

Thomaston, CT

My Grandma always planted by the moon---I never look for a particular moon, but I feel a stirring when I need to get out and plant!
