Black Cactus

Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom

Hey,

I don't suppose anyone would be able to help name a variety of cactus - I know I'd be better in the cacti forum but I am not a paid member.

I saw a cactus ages ago; it was spikey but the skin of it was black instead of green. It didn't have a label except cactus, the black wasn't becasue it was dying it was actually black. I have been searching on google for weeks but with no luck. It wasn't covered in spikes; it was sort of a rounded square shape and on the bits where you'd expect the sides of hte square to join it had a line of really sharp spikes.

I didn't buy it at the time because I dislike spikey cacti however I've since decided I would like one because it was so unusual.

The only cacti I've seen that are close to 'black' in color are some Gymnocalciums.....try a Google search for Gymnocalcium black.
Hope that helps!

That cactus looks like a Cereus of some kind.Try Googling pictures of those.

Thanks, it does appear to be a cereus of some kind or at least something that looks similar. Thank you!
